‘Jadeja’s knock of 34 was crucial’
Summary

Sanjay Manjrekar looks back at first day’s play in the Nagpur Test

The most exciting aspect of this Test series has been the frequent fall of wickets. On Day 1 in Nagpur, 12 wickets fell and the credit must go to South Africa bowlers. They did not rely only on spinners and created pressure through seamers. Morne Morkel bowled really well. From India's point of view, I was really impressed with the way Ravindra Jadeja batted. He showed how one can bat against the spinners on a track like this. When a ball was full, he leaned forward and got close to the ball and if it was pitched short, he went on the backfoot. It was thanks to his knock of 34 runs that India could cross the 200-run mark. South Africa lost two quick wickets and when you look overall at their batting, you get a feeling that India will always do well as their batsmen always struggle when the ball turns.
