Summary

Team Rajasthan overpower Mumbai despite Rahane’s ton

On a day when Kerala and Tripura were bowled out for 49 and 58 respectively, Team Rajasthan chased down 302 set by Mumbai to register a thrilling win. While Jharkhand sealed a quarterfinal berth, Assam slipped to their sixth straight loss. Group A Team Rajasthan v Mumbai: Mum 301/9 (Ajinkya Rahane 114, Surya Kumar Yadav 52, Pankaj Singh 4/55) lost to Team Rajasthan 305/5 (Rajat Bhatia 94 not out, Ashok Menaria 86) by five wickets.

Team Rajasthan needed a win to stay alive in the competition and they chased down 302 against Mumbai at the Gymkhana Ground in Secunderabad. Powered by Ajinkya Rahane’s 114, Mumbai posted a challenging 301/9 in the allotted 50 overs. Team Rajasthan after the fall of first wicket of Marender Singh for the score of 32, got together and stitched small but valuable partnerships to get close to Mumbai’s total. A 145-run stand for the fourth wicket between Ashok Menaria and Rajat Bhatia (94 not out) shifted the balance. With 17 needed from 10, Bhatia hit two sixes and a four as Team Rajasthan got to the total with six balls to spare. Tamil Nadu vs Hyderabad: Hyd 230/10 in 49.2 overs (Tanmay Agarwal 105, Danny Derek Prince 31; Laxmipathy Balaji 3-33) lost to TN 233/7 in 47.5 overs (Baba Aparajith 55, Murali Vijay 44; Ravi Kiran 2-51) Middle-order batsman Tanmay Agarwal scored a century for Hyderabad, but his effort did not result in a win for his team as an all-round show from Tamil Nadu helped them cross the finish line. The batters did their job after Tamil Nadu bowlers L Balaji (3-33), Rajagopal Satish, Vijay Shankar and captain R. Ashwin contributed equally to dismiss the opposition inside 50 overs. While Baba Aparajith top scored with 55, Murali Vijay’s 44 and R Ashwin’s 36 at No. 5 ensured Tamil Nad got the job done. Services v Assam: Assam 261/8 (Amit Verma 78, Diwesh Pathania 5/54) lost to Services 262/4 (Amit Pachchara 75, Soumik Chatterjee 73) by six wickets The search for their maiden victory in the ongoing season just got a bit longer after Assam lost their sixth straight game, this time to Services. Group B Karnataka v Kerala : Kerala 49/10 (S Gopal 5/19, Vinay Kumar 2/6) lost to Kar 51/1 in 5.5 overs (KL Rahul 19, K Nair 24) by 9 wickets Leg spinner Shreyas Gopal decimated Kerala with his impressive spell of five wickets in five overs as Kerala were shot out for just 49 in only 22 overs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Just two Kerala batsmen could get double digit scores as their innings folded up in less than two hours. Before Gopal, Karnataka seamers Vinay Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun and Sreenath Aravind had reduced Kerala to 16/4. Karnataka batsmen then came out with an attacking mindset and knocked off the target with ease in only 35 balls. J&K v Gujarat: Guj 187/19 (Rujul Bhatt 66, Waseem Raza 3/38) beat J&K 151/10 (Parvez Rasool 65, Hardik Patal 4/28) by 36 runs Jammu and Kashmir squandered an opportunity to get full points against Gujarat after their 36-run defeat in Alur. Having bowled Gujarat out for 187 runs, J&K would have hoped to chase down the target. However, Gujarat bowlers had other plans as J&K were reduced to four for just 20 runs. Skipper Rasool fought hard with his knock of 65 and shared a 97-run stand, but once Hardik Patel broke the stand, Gujarat only had to dismiss the tail. Hardik was the star of the day with his four-wicket haul. This was J&K’s fifth straight loss in the tournament. Jharkhand v Railways: Jha 211/5 in 45 overs (S Tiwary 49, MS Dhoni 37, Avinash Yadav 2/44 ) beat Railways 96 (Sonu Singh 4/15) by 115 runs

Andhra had lost five wickets for just 70 runs and left-arm spinner Akshay Karnewar then joined the party. Andhra lost the remaining wickets for just 17 more runs. Vidarbha openers Jitesh Sharma and Faiz Fazal remained unbeaten as the team completed a comprehensive victory Delhi v Maharashtra: Maha 194/9 (Kedar Jadhav 48, Swapnil Gugale 44, Manan Sharma 3/21, Pawan Negi 3/38) lost to Delhi 197/5 (Milind Kumar 58 not out, Dhruv Shorey 57) by 5 wickets (with 8 balls remaining) Manan Sharma and Pawan Negi picked up three wickets each while Milind Kumar and Dhruv Shorey scored half centuries to guide their team to five-wicket win over Maharashtra. In reply, Delhi were in slight trouble after losing three for 74 runs but a 59-run fourth wicket stand between Kumar and Shorey helped them close in on the target. Shorey was eventually run-out, but Kumar remained unbeaten to take Delhi home. Baroda v Tripura: Tripura 58/10 in 22.2 overs (Manisankar Murasingh 10; Swapnil Singh 5-25) lost to Baroda 61/4 in 6.1 overs (Ambati Rayudu 31 not out; Chiranjit Paul 3-27) by six wickets Swapnil Singh’s five-wicket haul combined with Irfan Pathan’s swing and Yusuf Pathan’s spin made the Group C encounter at the Palam Air Force Ground a one-way affair as Tripura were bowled for just 58 runs. Baroda led by Amabati Rayudu, faced a minor scare when they were reduced to 13/3 but the skipper remained not out on 31 to ensure the team collected four full points.
