Summary
Having come good with the bat against England, Yuvraj Singh is eager to perform as a bowler as well
Bengaluru, Feb 27: Left-handed batting sensation Yuvraj Singh finally found his form with the bat playing a scintillating knock of 58 runs against England in the big Group B encounter at the Chinnaswamy stadium.
Looking forward to contributing with the ball as well, Yuvraj spoke to the media about his innings.
Excerpts from the interaction
On England coming back into the game after taking quick wickets and India’s 338 runs
Definitely, I think that’s a great score. I think our batsmen gave a good start. Sachin [Tendulkar] along with Viru [Virender Sehwag] and [Gautam] Gambhir played really well for us. The plan was to play around [Sachin] Tendulkar and not [get bogged down by] the bowler and get a good score.
On being able to find form early in the tournament
Yeah, definitely. I haven’t got big runs in the last one-dayer so they just wanted me to go and bat through in the innings and it felt good today.
On the pitch
I think 340 is a good score to defend. [The wicket’s] turning and it’s got a bit [of] bounce and it’s a good batting wicket. Hopefully, we [will] bowl well [and] manage to get them out.
On England bowling short balls against him
Looks like it and next time I should get a plan for that. But obviously you have to make a plan, [the] bowlers have to make a plan [and the] batsmen [too] have to make a plan. Definitely, I think I did well in the plan. Hopefully next time I’ll come with a plan
On whether England overused the short ball against him
Well, everybody has a plan to get somebody out. Maybe there was a plan to get me out but I think I trusted myself to leave a few balls, hit a few balls and we just played till the end.
On his role with the ball
Yes, definitely, [I’m] looking forward to bowling [and] spinning [it] a little bit. If it was a bit flat, I wouldn’t bowl. So I would like to bowl [against England here].
On bowling to Kevin Pietersen
Definitely.
