Summary

Abhinav Mukund says it is an honour to play for India ahead of his Test debut

Jamaica, June 20: 21-year old Abhinav Mukund looks all set to earn his Test cap for India after some consistently good performances on the domestic scene. Mukund, who was chosen to replace the injured Gautam Gambhir, is expected to open the innings for India with Murali Vijay in the first Test at Sabina Park between West Indies and India.

The Tamil Nadu youngster spoke to the media on the eve of the 1st Test match

Excerpts from the interaction:

On his Test debut

Test debut comes only once in your life time and I just want to go out there and enjoy whatever comes my way.

On his current form after a successful domestic season

[I have] been playing good cricket for the past couple of years. Done couple of A tours and [I] am quite happy with my preparation after coming down here as well. All I am looking forward to is to go and get some runs in the middle.

On opening with Murali Vijay who is also from the same state

I think I am lucky enough to get an opening partnership with him and I guess it’s going to be good fun in the middle because we share a good rapport on and off the field. I am really looking forward to it.

On sharing the dressing room with the likes of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid

For any little kid who grows up in India it’s a great honour for them to share the dressing room with the likes of [MS] Dhoni, Dravid, Laxman, Suresh Raina. I am really going to enjoy every single moment of it and am really honoured to be playing for the Indian team. I want to make [the] most use of it.

On replacing Gautam Gambhir

He is a legend in his own right. There is little bit of pressure but I want to take it in a positive way and I want to go out there and play my own game and not want to replace someone else.
