Srengthening middle-order was DD’s auction plan
Bengaluru, Feb 4: The Delhi Daredevils team management is pleased with what transpired for them at the IPL Player Auction 2012. The team from India’s capital city bagged Sri Lankan stalwart Mahela Jayawardene for USD 1.4 million, besides acquiring the services of young all-rounders Andre Russell (West Indies) and Doug Bracewell (New Zealand).
"We are pleased with the acquisitions at the auction here and are confident we can be competitive through the season," said team mentor TA Sekar.
"Going into the auction, we were very clear that we would strengthen our middle-order batting and look for all-rounders. We are happy to have found what we targeted."
Sekar was particularly happy to have the classy Jayawardene in his side. "There can be no doubt that Mahela will make a difference to the team with his vast experience and his approach. We are delighted that we could add a true blue professional of his stature to our roster," Sekar said.
Jayawardene will join the Daredevils’ dashing captain Virender Sehwag, and newly recruited England batting star Kevin Pietersen, to bolster the batting line-up. The Delhi Daredevils squad Indian players:
