Summary
Visitors rout Hyderabad side by 253 runs
Hyderabad, Oct 11: England XI registered their second successive victory against the Hyderabad XI in preparation for their limited overs’ series against India. After a thunderous century from Jonny Bairstow’s helped England post a mammoth 367 in 50 overs, the Hyderabad side were bowled out for a mere 114 runs following a five-wicket haul from legbreak bowler Scott Borthwick.
The England XI were well and truly on their way to a convincing victory when openers Alastair Cook (85 off 74 balls) and Craig Kieswetter (71 off 86 balls) added 159 runs in just over 25 overs. And though both openers fell in quick succession to each other, Jonathan Trott (74 off 68 deliveries) ensured that the innings’ pace did not slacken. Kevin Pietersen (10) was the only England batsman who failed to post a big score but Bairstow, batting at no. 5, made up for Pietersen’s disappointment by cracking a 53-ball 104 that included six fours and eight sixes. The Bairstow-Trott partnership added 143 runs for the fourth wicket as England finally finished their innings well past the 350-run mark.
The only solace for the Hyderabad side was a three-wicket haul for left-arm pacer Medhi Hassan who accounted for the scalps of Cook, Kieswetter and Pietersen.
Hyderabad appeared to be putting up some kind of a spirited run chase with a 69-run opening stand between Akshath Reddy (37) and Dwaraka Ravi Teja (27). However, Reddy’s dismissal, with Hyderabad’s score at 69 at the hands of Borthwick, initiated a collapse. Borthwick accounted for five of the first six wickets with a three-wicket haul from medium-pacer Stuart Meaker complementing the legspinner’s efforts.
Hyderabad were finally bundled out for 114 in just 35.3 overs giving the visitors their second successive warm-up game victory.
