India Women win second ODI by 10 runs to level...
Vadodara, Jan 13: India Women beat West Indies Women by 10 runs in a thriller in the second ODI at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara. The five-ODI series is now level at 1-1.
Electing to field first, West Indies captain Merrisa Aguilleira used as many as eight bowlers to restrict the Indian side to 134 runs.
The hero of the previous match for West Indies, Stafanie Taylor, was sent back early by pacer and Indian skipper Jhulan Goswami. The fall of wickets of middle-order batsmen Stacy-Ann King and Deandra Dottin in quick succession triggered a minor batting-order collapse leaving the visitors reeling at 80/8 in the 26th over.
The 37-run partnership between Anisa Mohammad and Shakera Selman brought the West Indies back into the game. With the fall of Anisa’s wicket, the Indians heaved a sigh of relief. Last batsman in Tremayne Smartt could not help SC Selman clinch a victory. The West Indies were all out in the 48th over with Smartt’s run-out.
Put in to bat first, team India failed to bat their full quota of overs for the second consecutive time in the series. The hosts lost opener Poonam Raut in the eighth over and Anagha Deshpande soon after. Mithali Raj once again disappointed her supporters by failing to convert her 19 runs into a bigger score. With 26 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur was the highest run-getter for India. After the fall of her wicket, it was downhill for India. The lower middle-order and the tail-enders could not withstand the opponents.
At the beginning of the series West Indies coach Sherwin Campbell had said that everyone in the team could bowl - this was evident in the second ODI. Shemaine Campbelle was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies with two wickets for 23 runs in 9.2 overs. Smartt and Anisa too claimed two wickets each.
Brief Scores: India 134all out in 41.2 overs (H Kaur 26, D David 24, Mithali Raj 19, S Campbelle 2/23, Tremayne Smartt 2/31, Anisa Mohammad 2/20) beat West Indies 124 all out 48 overs (Anisa Mohammad 26, Stacy – Ann King 18, S Selman 17, Gauhar Sultana 3/ 10)
