Match Report, WI v Ind - 3rd Test, Day 2
Summary

India bowl WI out for 204 in another rain-curtailed day

Dominica, July 7: Rain once again halted the progress of the third and final Test match between West Indies and India being played at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica. This after India had bowled out West Indies for 204 in the first innings with Ishant Sharma taking his third five-wicket haul and Harbhajan Singh getting to the 400-wicket milestone in Test cricket.

West Indiesresumed proceedings on Day 2 after a rain-delayed start at 75 for three. The Indian pacers continued their good work from Day 1 with Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar soon accounting for Shivnarine Chanderpaul (23) and Marlon Samuels (9) respectively. Darren Bravo’s gritty 50-run knock off 134 deliveries was brought to an end by Ishant Sharma, the lanky fast bowler getting Bravo to knick one behind the stumps to MS Dhoni. West Indies were 158 for six at this stage.

Harbhajan Singh then scalped the wickets of Darren Sammy (20) and Carlton Baugh (60) off consecutive overs to become only the third Indian bowler to reach 400 wickets in Test cricket. Harbhajan might have even added to his wickets’ tally but failed to latch on to a sharp return catch from Ravi Rampaul a few overs after he had dismissed Baugh. Ishant took the wickets of Fidel Edwards (3) and Devendra Bishoo (0) to finish with figures of five for 77 and bring an end to the West Indies first innings.

Baugh, undoubtedly, was the star for the hosts. Had it not been for his feisty innings (60 off 79 balls), West Indies might have folded for far less than the 204 that they actually scored.

India, in reply, were eight for no loss before rain made further play impossible.

Brief scores: West Indies 1st innings 204 all outin 76.3 overs(Carlton Baugh 60, Darren Bravo 50, Ishant Sharma 5/77); India 1st innings 8/0 in 4.0 overs (Abhinav Mukund 6, Murali Vijay 1).
