Dravid scores ton; WI need 195 runs to win Sabina Park Test
Jamaica, June 21: The Sabina Park Test is headed for an exciting finish as hosts West Indies need another 195 runs with seven wickets in hand to beat India. This after India were bowled out for a score of 252 in their second innings while the hosts finished Day 3 with their second innings score at 131 for three.
Indiabegan the morning on a disappointing note as Virat Kohli edged a short delivery from Fidel Edwards down the leg side to wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh in just the fourth over of the day. Kohli made 15 and India were 100 for four at the loss of his wicket.
A 48-run partnership followed for the fifth wicket between Rahul Dravid and Suresh Raina. India suffered a collapse at the fall of Raina’s wicket after the southpaw had made 27. MS Dhoni (16), Harbhajan Singh (5) and Praveen Kumar (0) fell in quick succession, with the addition of just 17 runs, to leave India in a sticky situation at 183 for eight.
However, a 56-run ninth wicket stand between Dravid and Amit Mishra saved India from being bowled out for under 200. Dravid brought up his 32nd Test century off 252 deliveries during the course of that partnership.
Darren Sammy then took his fourth wicket of the innings when he had Mishra caught at third man while attempting an upper-cut with the Indian score at 239. Dravid fell 13 runs later at an individual score of 112 to Devendra Bishoo, the legspinner matching Sammy’s four-wicket haul.
West Indiesgot off to a flier in their second innings as Adrian Barath smashed 38 off just 36 deliveries. However, the swashbuckling opener fell playing one shot too many as he edged a wide delivery from Praveen Kumar to Suresh Raina at third slip with the score at 62.
Ishant Sharma continued his good form from the first innings taking the next two wickets for the visitors. The lanky pacer sent back Sarwan (0) after the batsman had faced just two deliveries and then bowled Lendl Simmons (27) to give India the advantage at 80 for three.
But with Darren Bravo (30* off 67) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (24* off 52) ensuring the hosts did not lose any further wickets, West Indies ended the day at a score of 131 for three, needing another 195 runs to achieve a stunning victory against the No. 1 Test team in the world.
