New Zealand batsman believes if the Kiwis play with freedom they can end the tour on a high

Bangalore, Dec 6: New Zealand’s flamboyant batsman Brendon McCullum on Sunday said that his team will play freely in the ODI series as they have nothing to lose.

“Our team has talked about the need to put what's happened behind us,” he said.

“It's bitterly disappointing but there's nothing we can do about it now. Our focus has got to be on getting a performance in the next two games. If we can play with some freedom, and allow our skills to come out, that'll get us the results we desire.”

On his fitness, McCullum said: “The back is slowly getting better but it's still pretty sore.”

“I guess playing in that [Nagpur] Test match probably didn't help in terms of recovery but it was a career-defining opportunity. It didn't work out but that's what you sometimes have to do to be able to be a part of history. Hopefully I can play fully well, but at this point it's very much wait and see,” he added.
