Zimbabwe fightback impresses captain
Townsville, Aug 14: Despite a brilliant century by Malcolm Lake as they chased a challenging total, Zimbabwe lost to India in the ICC U19 CWC 2012. During the post-match presentation, Zimbabwe skipper Matthew Bentley reflected upon his team’s performance and lauded Lake’s effort.
Excerpts from the brief chat:
On fight put-up by Zimbabwe in the run chase
They pulled [the game] it back nicely during the middle overs and towards the end there was a little [problem]. Good shots by the batsman Malcolm Lake, a magnificent innings.
On whether Kamal Passi’s cameo took the match away from them
Definitely, [...] towards the end he just took it away from us with a few good shots in the end.
On good bowling by Lake and Peacemore Zimwa
It was a tough deck to bowl the spinners. There wasn’t much [in the wicket] but he [Zimwa] hit his line so I am happy with that.
On Lake’s batting and timing the ball for big hits
He likes to free-up his arms, which is good [...].
On needing to win their next match against the West Indies
Definitely! That’s the focus from now on and that’s what we need.
