'Nets with Tendulkar naïve'
Summary

Andy Flower uncomfortable with Panesar-Sachin nets

London, July 27: England’s Monty Panesar fulfilled the ambition of most modern-day bowlers with his very first Test wicket - he saw the back of the mighty Sachin Tendulkar. Now, as the champ returns to England with the touring England side, Panesar is thrilled to be bowling to his first Test victim in the nets.

Explaining that he was bowling to the master in his spare time to improve his cricket, he was quoted as saying that Tendulkar was "a wonderful batsman and person."

Panesar has, however, been asked to stop the net sessions with the Little Master by England’s coach Andy Flower. Flower is of the view that, even though Panesar is not part of the England squad, net sessions offered to a player of Tendulkar’s stature and skill is amiss.

"He did bowl to him in the nets before Lord's and I think that it is quite a naive thing to do," Flower was quoted as saying on the subject.

"I haven't spoken to him yet but one would hope he understands that it won't happen again," he added.

However, despite the practice sessions, Tendulkar scored only 34 runs in the first innings of the first Test at Lord’s. Midway through the Test, the master was hit by a viral infection and scored only 12 runs in the second innings.

The former Zimbabwe skipper expects India to bounce back after the beating at Lord’s. "India are a very fine side and they didn't get to the world No. 1 spot by being poor and by not fighting back."

"We've only won one out of four matches and there is another vital one around the corner and we have to be on the top of our game to win. But we're ready for that fight,” said Flower.
