Summary
Patel wins place in side on the back of a good domestic season
Port Elizabeth, Jan 21: Brought into the Indian side as a replacement for Sachin Tendulkar, Parthiv Patel, who has had a good domestic season, is looking forward to playing for India again. Here’s what he had to say before the fourth ODI against South Africa, his series debut.
Excerpts from an interview
On whether he had enough time to get into play mode
[I had just] enough time to get into the groove. Obviously it would have been nice to come here earlier but I think that’s how it is.
On joining a confident Indian team
The Indian team has played really well throughout the series. They have done well in the Test series and won very close one-dayers. I am sure they are quite confident to win this one as well.
On whether he has had enough time to adjust to South African conditions
I just had one net session before going into this game. But having played here in the IPL and having toured here with the Indian team twice [helps]. I think it will be a little difficult but I am sure I will be able to adjust in here.
On having to fill in the shoes of the legendary Tendulkar
[I will] do as well as I can. Obviously I will try and do my best and nobody can fill Sachin Tendulkar’s shoes, can he? But I will try and do my best and play to the best of my ability.
On the past two games being very close ones
I think both teams are playing really well but I think the Indian team have held their nerve really well in tight situations. So let’s hope for a good game here.
