First four-day match ends in a draw
Mumbai: Sep 29: New Zealand A drew the first four-day match against India A at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln. The two teams will play their next and the last match of the tour from October 3-6, 2012. Giving themselves a chance to win, India declared their innings with a 313-run lead before lunch on the fourth day. Jaydev Unadkat responded to the captain's decision by removing New Zealand's first-innings centurion, Tom Latham for 14 before lunch. Neil Broom then stitched a 149-run stand for the second wicket with George Worker before Unadkat struck again. Broom departed for 72 in the 42nd over. A few overs later, Vinay Kumar castled Worker for 89. During his 144-ball innings, the opener hit 10 fours and one six. Soon, Dean Brownlie was sent back by Ashok Menaria and 51 runs later Vinay Kumar claimed Sam Wells, before following up with the wicket of New Zealand skipper Reece Young. In the next over, Rahul Sharma dismissed Neil Wagner and Tarun Nethula off consecutive deliveries to leave the hosts on 270 for eight. But Luke Woodcock and Andrew McKay ensured a draw by remaining unbeaten till the stumps were drawn on the game. Earlier, resuming on 137, India added 71 runs to the overnight total before declaring their second innings on 208 for 4. Mandeep Singh (38) and Anustup Majumdar (58) were both dismissed by pacer Brent Arnel. Ambati Rayudu and Naman Ojha remained unbeaten on 26 and 21 respectively.
