Pacers put India A in front after big 1st innings
Mumbai, Oct 4: After their batsmen posted a mammoth total, India A pacers left New Zealand A reeling on 198 for five at the end of Day 2 of their second four-day game. The home team was trailing by 356 runs when play was called off due to bad light at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.
Resuming on their overnight total of 433, India A added 121 runs, before declaring their innings on 554 for eight. Pacer Sam Wells gave NZ A their first breakthrough of the day by sending back Ashok Menaria for 173; and in his next over he trapped Naman Ojha leg-before for naught. 15 runs later, Mandeep Singh was the next to walk back to the pavilion. Unfortunate to miss out on a well deserved double-century, the top-order bat was dismissed for 193. A few overs later, Tarun Nethula followed up with the wicket of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Vinay Kumar and Akshay Darekar were unbeaten on 50 and 10 respectively when India declared their innings.
The Indian pacers, Vinay Kumar and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, then rocked New Zealand on the back foot by claiming a couple of wickets each. Vinay Kumar castled George Worker on the first ball of the innings. 82 runs later, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled Tom Latham. Thereafter, Neil Broom was sent back by Vinay Kumar, while Hamish Rutherford was run-out by Unmukt Chand for 99. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then struck again to claim skipper Reece Young.
