Mumbai, Sep 27: Sandeep Patil replaces Kris Srikkanth as the Chairman of India’s National Selection Committee, as announced after BCCI’s 83rd Annual General Meeting.

Patil will head the new-look panel, which comprises Vikram Rathore, Saba Karim, Roger Binny and Rajinder Singh Hans. Hon. Secretary, BCCI, Sanjay Jagdale is the convener of the panel.

Patil, who represented India in 29 Tests and 45 ODIs, was known for his flamboyant batting style and penchant for big sixes. Since his retirement as a player, Patil has served cricket in various ways, including as coach. The 56-year-old has coached India, India A, Kenya and Oman in the past, and since October 2009, he has been serving as the Director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

A stylish batsman in his days, Patil took over the mentoring role with Team India from Ajit Wadekar in 1996, but his time at the helm lasted only six months. The following year, he took the reins of the Kenyan national team and guided them to semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup. He then returned home to coach India A.

In October 2009, Patil added yet another cricketing role to his resume when he took over as the Director of the NCA from Dav Whatmore. Now, as he leads the National Selection Panel for Team India, the Mumbai Cricket stalwart will venture into uncharted territory once again. However, his experience in the previous leadership and mentoring roles will help him achieve success in this field as well.
