All-rounder says he is enjoying his cricket and predicts a good contest against Australia
Chennai, March 20: Having walked away with as many as three Man-of-the-Match awards out of six matches at the ongoing World Cup, Yuvraj Singh has earned the title of ‘big match performer’.
Scoring a century against the West Indies in Chennai, the all-rounder returned later to get the wickets of Devon Thomas and Andre Russell and ensure victory for his side.
Excerpts from a post-match interview.
On his form both with the bat and ball
Yeah, it has been good starting with the match against England. I have been hitting the ball well. Today we lost two early wickets and when I went in I was hitting the ball with the middle of the bat.
On getting to bat early because of the fall of wickets
Whenever you lose early wickets you need to get a partnership going. Virat [Kohli] and I got a partnership [going] and got 122 runs and also the way we proceeded throughout the innings [helped].
On suffering from dehydration while batting
Yeah, it was stomach cramps. I had some trouble with my stomach since morning but I wanted to bat through the innings.
On his left-arm flighters
Yeah, I mean [it’s] never too bad with my bowling. I wanted to get some wickets and it was good to get two wickets at a crucial stage and turn the match around. I am very happy with the team effort.
On the Indian batting line-up and plans
We have our batting plans. Normally, when Sachin [Tendulkar] bats, others bats around him. If we lose early wickets then we try to build a partnership. We have been batting well and hopefully our bowling and fielding will also come around to make us a solid team.
On playing Australia in the quarter-finals
Yeah, I mean definitely [it’s a big contest]. We have won five games and they too have won five games. So it is going to be a good competition.
