Mumbai, Jan 10: TheWest Indies Women’s team were able to beat the Indian Women’s side in a convincing fashion in the first match of the five-ODI series at the Bandra –Kurla Complex on Monday. The triumphant captain, Merrisa Aguilleira, interacted with the media after the morale-boosting win.
Excerpts from the interaction
On the win
Yes definitely, I think that we did extremely well. I think that we fielded well, we tried and came back out and I think we beat India well. I am pleased as a captain and very proud.
On batting and bowling and keeping a stranglehold on a very strong Indian batting line-up
I guess in the area of experience, the players right now are very much developed. But we kept it down. We went out there, we did what we were supposed to do and we did as planned. And all we have to do is to continue doing what we are doing right now.
On whether the wicket of Mithali Raj gave an extra boost to the side
Yes, I think definitely. The position she has right now, she holds the spot. […] we got the wicket so you know that was a plus for us. We were very pleased at the time and our spirits were well lifted.
On the over 100-run partnerships between West Indies batsmen
Yes definitely, even in the practice match we had those partnerships and that is one of the things that we are really working on - building partnerships. I think we are doing that pretty well. So all we have to do now is to just continue.
On not getting a chance to bat
It doesn’t really matter to me because the girls did what they were really supposed to do and so I am pleased.
