All-rounder Yuvraj Singh feels taking the team to the end is his job
New Delhi, March 9: Yuvraj Singh came up with a second consecutive match-winning performance in Delhi justifying all the faith stored in him by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The all-rounder spoke to the media after securing a win for India against Netherlands with an unbeaten half-century and two wickets.
Excerpts from the interview.
On his three half-centuries after an indifferent last year
Yeah, last year was full of injuries and I was coming in and going out [of the side] so [I] wasn’t getting too many runs as well. So I’m happy to be back in form. My job is to play in the middle overs if possible and take the team to the end. So that’s what I tried to do in the last game and this one as well.
On whether pressure helps him focus on his batting
[Under pressure] you are more focused, you are watching the ball more strongly, your eyes are glued and you want to start slowly and build a partnership with the batsman next to you. As I said, [in the] last game I batted according to the situation and that’s what I did in this game as well.
On coming good with the ball
[Ryan] ten Doeschate was one of the main batsmen and it was nice to get him out. I have been bowling well and [it’s] nice to contribute with the ball and in the field.
