Summary

India’s quest for six in six; Zimbabwe’s farewell to Brendan Taylor

What Match 39 of the ICC 2015 World Cup, between India and Zimbabwe When Saturday, March 14, 2015 - 06:30 IST| 01:00 GMT Where Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand The teams India Team India look a settled unit going into their last game in the group phase. MS Dhoni has refrained from testing the bench strength in the previous matches, instead deciding to stick with the winning combination. Now that India are guaranteed to finish at the top of their pool table irrespective of the result of this game, it will be interesting to see if Dhoni does give a game to some of the reserve players. The spinners did the job for the Indian captain in Hamilton, which has the slowest wicket in New Zealand. They pulled things back with parsimonious spells and wickets after Ireland got off to a brisk start. However, the Auckland wicket is expected to be quicker and spicier and a seam all-rounder instead of Ravindra Jadeja could come in handier. However, Dhoni has made it clear that unless there is an injury, he will not change the winning XI. Zimbabwe With a solitary win under their belt, Zimbabwe have no chance of forcing their way into the quarter finals. The match against India holds mere academic interest in regards with the tournament but for Zimbabwe it is a chance to test themselves against the best. The good thing is that Zimbabwe have put up a fight in most of their matches before losing by close margins. The bad news for the African team is that Elton Chigumbura is nursing a leg muscle injury and will be unavailable for the Indian game. Key players India The Indian openers came on their own in the last match against Ireland wit a 174-run partnership. While Shikhar Dhawan has been in form right through the tournament, Rohit Sharma scored some welcome runs following a dry patch. The two have a fine chance of repeating that performance in the small Eden Park where the short boundaries are incredible short. Zimbabwe This game might not have any bearing on the World Cup but for one man its significance is immense. Zimbabwe’s best batsman over the years, Brendan Taylor, will be donning his national colours for the last time, at least for the foreseeable future. Taylor, who is set to becoming Nottinghamshire’s Kolpak player after the World Cup, will be eager to leave the national side with the memory of a good farewell.
