Teams brace themselves for a virtual semi-final at Perth
What Sixth ODI of the tri-nation series When January 30, 2015 Where WACA, Perth The Teams India With the previous fixture against Australia being washed out, India now have a genuine chance of making it to the Final of the tri-nation series. A rain marred game meant India finally got some points on the board sans a win in the tournament thus far. Now, all they need is one win; the only win that would matter at the moment against England. If the match is washed out or ends up in a tie, then quite obviously England go through, afterall they have a win under their belt. India won’t have fond memories of the last time they played England though. India suffered a batting collapse and were skittled out for a mere 153 at the Gabba. Barring Stuart Binny and captain MS Dhoni none of the other batsmen looked like sticking around for long. Quite naturally, MS Dhoni stressed upon the need for partnerships in the pre-match press conference if India were to make an impact looking ahead to the World Cup. If India are to post a win against England they need to put forth their batting prowess be it in a chase or posting a huge total. England Unlike India, England have a bit of momentum going their way entering Friday’s do or die clash. They would be having their chin up having already won a game against India previously and are coming off a solid performance against Australia. The result might not have gone their way but they had a lot of positives to take from that loss. Ian Bell looks in form, Joe Root who has looked out of sorts is back amongst the runs as well and at the bowling front James Anderson looks threatening. England have managed to send a flutter in the Indian camp in the past and it could be no different come Friday. Captain Eoin Morgan was clear of the fact that this ODI was important like any other game especially with the World Cup round the corner. England look keen and energized and the momentum that they are looking for may well be round the corner. Key Players India Captain MS Dhoni in the pre-match press conference stressed on the need for partnerships in the middle order. When reasoned as to why India’s no.3 Virat Kohli was not batting in his regular position, Dhoni was of the view that Kohli added more cushion to the middle order batting in that position. With India struggling at the top, Kohli has the responsibility of holding a fragile batting order together. If Kohli can get going it will augur him well ahead of the World Cup. England With one of the juiciest tracks on offer, James Anderson would be itching to get that ball in his hand. Anderson has been a thorn in India’s flesh for quite some time now and he would be looking to repeat the same on Friday. His swing and bounce at the start of the innings have proved to be too hot to handle for the Indian batsmen. If Anderson strikes early and the rest of the bowlers compliment him well, this could well be England’s game.
