The washout in Ranchi took away India’s chance to wipe off Australia’s 2-1 lead in the series. As the inclusion of Mohammad Shami has added bite to the bowling, MS Dhoni will be more confident of doing it in Cuttack. However, the deciding factor of the fate of the match will be the weather, with incessant rains in Orissa the day before the game.
Assuming the weather will clear up and the match will take place, India would not want to make many changes to their playing XI. It was a surprising decision to leave Bhuvneshwar Kumar out in the fourth ODI, given he was the only saving grace among the Indian pacers in the first three games. If he is fit, India should bring him back and leave Vinay Kumar out.
Australia
While there has been little to separate in the two teams’ batting performance, the Aussies have outplayed the hosts in pace bowling and fielding throughout the series. This superiority will be their best bet for sealing a series victory. The only chink in the Australian armour currently is the indifferent form of their star all-rounder, Shane Watson. Runs from his bat will add a lot of steel to the middle order.

India
The Ranchi game was the first in the series where the team batting first didn’t get past 300. A lot of credit for that must go to Mohammad Shami and his first spell of three for 21 in six overs. His inclusion in the side gave India a weapon they lacked in the first three matches – speed and consistently right length. The pacer will play a key role in the overcast conditions of Cuttack, if the rain stops in time.
Australia
Mitchell Johnson has undoubtedly been the best bowler in the series so far, if not in terms of wickets, definitely for the impact he has had on Australia’s wins. Even when not picking wickets, the left-arm speedster has created pressure with his relentless pace and lethal bouncers. Indian batsmen hopping and skipping off his bowling was a common sight in the first three ODIs and it will be a significant factor for the remainder of the series.
