Preview: India vs West Indies – 2nd ODI
Summary

India aim to prove Kochi loss as an aberration

What Second of the five-match ODI series between India and West Indies Where Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi When Saturday, October 11, 2014 The Teams India Generally a dominant force at home, Team India crumbled in the opening match of the series. The bowling attack in general lacked luster, giving away 321 runs to the visitors and there was hardly any fight shown with the bat. With the exception of Shikhar Dhawan, no Indian batsman got past the score of 35. The struggle was similar against West Indies’ pacers and spinners. Among the bowlers, only Bhuvneshwar Kumar was consistently accurate and effective throughout the innings, while his bowling colleagues blew hot and cold. After conceding the first match to the men from Caribbean, Team India would be keen to prove that the Kochi failure was but an aberration. Expect them to come back with a fight. As far as the team combination goes, at least one change is forced upon MS Dhoni with the injury of Mohit Sharma. If the captain decides to bring in an extra spinner in place of Mohit, young Kuldeep Yadav might get his first India cap. West Indies They got into the first game amid controversy with their home board, but there was nothing controversial about their dominance over India in the first ODI. They outplayed the hosts in all aspects of the game as reflected by their 124-run victory margin. While Dwayne Bravo has not much to think about his playing XI for the Delhi game, there is the question mark over Lendl Simmons’ availability. Bravo opened the batting in the absence of the injured Simmons and it is left to see whether the regular opener will return to take his place, hence allowing Bravo to strengthen the middle order. Key Players India If the Kotla wicket lives up to its reputation of being slow and low, the spinners will be expected to do the bulk of the work. Now, Amit Mishra might have been taken for cleaners in Kochi but he could be a force at the ground he is all too familiar with. With apt support from someone as stingy as Bhuvneshwar, Mishra would also not feel pressurized to give up on his leg spinner’s attacking instincts. West Indies Marlon Samuels ruled the day in Kochi with the bat and the ball and is a man high on confidence and he would look to convert that into consistency. One man, however, who has been a picture of consistency over the last few matches, is Denesh Ramdin. With his most recent ODI scores of 128, 74, 34, 169 and 61, the wicketkeeper has been the rock of West Indies' middle order. His run-spree will bode well for the visitors in this series.
