Summary
Can India bounce back from the big loss to end the series on a winning note?
What
The fifth and final One-Day International between West Indies and India
When
June 16, 2011. The game begins at 7:30 pm, IST.
Where
Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. Like most wickets in the West Indies today, the Sabina Park pitch, too, has slowed down in recent years. Where the pace and bounce on offer on this wicket once intimidated the best of batsmen, scores of 300 plus totals in recent ODIs have established just how batsman-friendly this wicket has become.
The Teams
Adrian Barath, the most talented opening batsman to emerge for the West Indies in recent years, has been picked in the 13-man squad named for this last ODI. Although diminutive in stature, Barath is capable of destroying any attack on his day with his big-hitting. He should be a sure pick in the eleven given that the hosts have posted only one half-century partnership at the top in the series so far.
The twin pace threat of the returning Ravi Rampaul and Kemar Roach could be a real worry for the Indian batsmen. The question is: who do the West Indies drop to accommodate both pacers? Darren Sammy captains the side while fellow pacer Andre Russell has been chipping in with the bat lower down the order (innings of 92 not out in the third ODI). And with legspinner Anthony Martin having won the Man-of-the-Match award in the last game, the hosts will be under pressure to get their bowling combination right.
Although India have won this series, the inexperience of their batsmen has come to the fore quite clearly. Besides Rohit Sharma, no other Indian batsman has posted two half-centuries in this series. S Badrinath, Yusuf Pathan and Shikhar Dhawan have humble averages of 13.33, 4.00 and 19.33 while Manoj Tiwary scored just two runs in the only opportunity given to him in the last ODI at Antigua. Sabina Park offers one last chance at redemption for the aforementioned names.
