Summary
Will the young Indian squad calypso their way to a T20 win?
What
The only T20 international to be played between West Indies and India as part of the series
When
June 4, 2011. The game begins at 6:30 pm, IST.
Where
Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Among the more picturesque grounds in the West Indies, the Queen’s Park Oval has a rich sense of history to it, having hosted its first Test match way back in 1930. Although England were blown away for 46 in a Test match here in 1994-95, the wicket has got a lot flatter in recent times. In the 2007 ICC ODI World Cup, India notched up the best score by any side in an innings in the tournament by scoring a mammoth 413 for five against Bermuda at the same venue.
The Teams
Both teams are fielding relatively inexperienced squads for this game. With Chris Gayle not being picked in the West Indies T20 squad, the hosts are without a genuine match-winner. Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels and Lendl Simmons will shoulder the bulk of the responsibility in the batting department while Ravi Rampaul, Darren Sammy and Devendra Bishoo will be expected to restrict the Indians with their bowling.
Being led by Suresh Raina in this game, India are without some of their big stars – MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Nonetheless, they have enough players like Yusuf Pathan, Virat Kohli, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar who can step up in this format of the game. Parthiv Patel is expected to keep wicket ahead of Wriddhiman Saha as well as open the batting. The team management will have to decide on the optimum seamer-spinner balance: three pacers and one spinner or two pacers and two spinners? If it is the former, the toss up should be between Harbhajan Singh and R Ashwin while if they opt for the latter, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel will be fighting for the two spots.
