India lose close encounter by four wickets
Townsville, Apr 7: India lost their second game on the trot in the ongoing Quadrangular Series here in Australia. The visitors lost the match to the home team by four wickets in the last over with five balls to spare.
Asked to bat first at the Tony Ireland Stadium, India posted 260 runs. Although they lost opener Manan Vohra in the second over, Akhil Herwadkar and skipper Unmukt Chand both scored 45 runs each to ensure that the tourists did not capitulate like they did in the first game. While Akashdeep Nath and Baba Aparajith contributed 28 runs each, Kamal Passi slammed 41 off 30 lower-down the order to help India post a competitive total.
Gurinder Sandhu and Ashton Agar took three scalps apiece; Shane Cassel claimed two while Harry Conway and William Bosisto picked one each for Australia.
Kurtis Patterson led the chase for Australia with a superb 99. Although they lost the wicket of opener Cameron Bancroft early and were on 32 for two after losing James Peirson, a 103-run stand between Patterson and Head put them back in the driver's seat. Travis Head scored 54 before being run out, and Meyrick Buchanan contributed 51, as the hosts chased down 261 runs successfully.
Kuldeep Yadav picked the wicket of Patterson and Buchanan, Passi claimed Bancroft, and Sandeep Sharma dismissed Pierson.
