Cardiff, Sept 16: Rahul Dravid finished off his One-Day International career in style with a solid innings of 69 off 79 deliveries that helped India to a mammoth score of 304 in the final game of the five-match series against England. Even though India eventually sank to another defeat, Dravid’s innings provided fans at Sophia Gardens the opportunity to cheer him on for one last time in ODI cricket.

Dravid finished his ODI career as the seventh highest run-getter in this format and the third highest among Indian batsmen; a remarkable exit for a player who was long thought of as being unable to adapt to the limited overs’ format.

Beginning with the 1999 ODI World Cup, where he finished as the leading run-getter, Dravid’s rise as a prolific ODI batsman for India coincided with India winning the NatWest series in England in 2002, finishing as joint winners with Sri Lanka of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, as runners-up in the 2003 ICC ODI World Cup and winning the five-match ODI series in Pakistan in 2003-04.
