Railways v Maharashtra: Rlys 131/6 (Niranjana Nagarajan 55, M D Thirushkamini 24) beat Maharashtra 87/8 (Smriti Mandhana 29) by 44 runs Railways continued their winning run in the Elite Super League of the Senior Women’s T20 League with a comprehensive 44-run victory over Maharashtra at Holkar Stadium, Indore.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Railways posted a challenging 131/6 and restricted. Maharashtra to just 87/8. Railways openers Niranjana Nagarajan and M Thirushkamini added 42 for the first wicket before the latter was out for 24 in the 10th over. From the other end, Niranjana batted positively and despite the fall of regular wickets, the scorecard kept ticking. A late burst from Harmanpreet Kaur (22 from 12) meant Maharashtra had to chase in excess of 130. Maharashtra lost wickets right from the start and were put under pressure by a strong bowling attack. As many as five bowlers picked up a wicket each as just two Maharashtra batters reached double digits. T S Hasabnis, who had earlier picked two wickets, remained not out on 25. The one-drop walked in after the first wicket fell on 20 and stitched a 34-run stand for the second wicket with Sanjula Naik. She later shared an unbroken 36-run partnership with captain Shikha Pandey as Goa reached the target in 17.5 overs. This was Odisha’s second loss in as many games. In a low-scoring game at Motibaug Stadium, UP, who were shot out for 67 in the first innings after Baroda had made 127, recovered to skittle Baroda out for just 78 in 29.3 overs. Needing 139 to win, UP got to the total with six wickets to spare. Opening batsman and captain, Shivam Chaudhary, made 49 while middle-order batsman Sandeep Kumar remained not-out on 44. UP will now meet the winner of the Mumbai vs Gujarat game in the tournament final.
