Baroda, J&K register victories in sixth round

Mumbai, Dec 10: Baroda beat Odisha while J&K beat Kerala on the third day of the ongoing sixth round of the Ranji Trophy 2012-13 season. Here is the round-up for the day:

Rajasthan vs Gujarat in Ahmedabad: After bowling Gujarat out for 312 earlier today Rajasthan were leading by 11 runs at the end of the day’s play of the sixth round.

After Gujarat resumed their innings on 104 for one, the Rajasthan bowlers, Rituraj Singh, Ankit Choudhary and Gajendra Singh claimed three wickets each, while Ashok Menaria took one to wrap up the opposition. Parthiv Patel top-scored for the hosts with 92 runs. Rajasthan were 29 for two when play was called off today.

Punjab vs Mumbai in Mumbai: A superb 163 by Rohit Sharma and a patient 163-ball 54 by Hiken Shah took Mumbai to 364 for three at the end of Day 3 against Punjab. For the full match report click here.

MPCA vs Railways in Bhubaneswar: Railways trailed by 109 runs with five wickets in hand against MPCA. Resuming their first innings at 63 for three, Railways were all-out for 214 and were asked to follow-on by Madhya Pradesh. They finished the day on 54 for five V Cheluvaraj and Mahesh Rawat in the middle.

Ishwar Pandey ran through the Railways’ line-up claiming six wickets in the first innings. Anand Rajan and Amarjeet Singh took two wickets apiece, while Pandey picked one to leave Railways floundering in the second innings.

Saurashtra vs Bengal in Rajkot: Powered by Sheldon Jackson’s unbeaten ton Saurashtra declared their second innings for 333 for the loss of eight wickets on the third day against Bengal. Chasing a mammoth 431, Bengal were 65 for three with Rohan Banerjee and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala at the crease when play ended today.

Haryana vs Maharashtra in Pune: Maharashtra declared their innings after posting 540 at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium against Haryana and then claimed two early wickets to leave the opposition on 75 for two when play ended today.

Sangram Atitkar scored 190, while Kedar Jadhav made 109 to help the home team post a massive first innings score, after they had bowled Haryana out for 275 in the first innings. The visitors are now trailing by 208 runs with a day still remaining in the match.

UPCA vs Vidarbha in Nagpur: Resuming on 524 for seven, UP declared their innings, after adding 24 runs to their overnight score and losing one more wicket.

In response, Vidarbha were 237 for six with Hemang Badani unbeaten on 69 when stumps were called.

Odisha vs Baroda in Baroda: Baroda beat Odisha by 10 wickets at the Moti Bagh Stadium to claim seven points from the match.

After being bowled out for 301 in the first innings earlier today, the home team wrapped up the Odisha innings for 123 and scored the four runs required to win in five balls. Ketul Patel had picked a four-wicket haul, while Bhargav Bhatt claimed two and Mayank Vohara and Utkarsh Patel chipped in with one wicket each to skittle out the opposition for a paltry total.

Assam vs Himachal in Guwahati: After resuming their first innings on 62 for no loss, Himachal were 158 for the loss of four wickets at the end of Day 3. Amit Kumar and Rishi Dhawan were batting on 20 and 28 when play ended today.

J Syed Mohammad had claimed two wickets for Assam, while Abu Nechim Ahmed and Arup Das had picked one each.

J & K vs Kerala in Malappuram: J&K picked six points from their 74-run win against Kerala on the third day of the game.

Bowled out for 151 earlier today, J&K and set Kerala a 204-run target for victory. Parvez Rasool and Manik Gupta picked five wicket hauls to bundle out Kerala for 129 to win the match for their team.

SSCB vs Goa in Porvorim: Goa trailed by 161 in the first innings runs with five wickets in hand at the end of the third day’s play at the District Institute of Education and Training Ground against Services.

Resuming their innings on 64 for the loss of one wicket, Goa were 312 for four at stumps with Ravikant Shukla (78) and Rohit Asnodkar (52) at the crease.

Karnataka vs Delhi in Banglore: Resuming on 130 for no loss, Karnataka declared their second innings for 475 to set Delhi a 410-run target on the third day of the four-day match. Chasing the challenging total Delhi had lost three wickets and were trailing by 370 run at stumps.

Vinay Kumar and HS Sharath dealt early blows to rock the visitors on the backfoot on the penultimate day of the game. Mohit Sharma and Mithun Manhas were at the crease when play ended today.
