TN set up thriller against Maharashtra
Mumbai, Nov 19: Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary missed out on a double-ton against Gujarat, while Jharkhand skipper Shahbaz Nadeem claimed a fiver against Goa. Here is the round-up for the Day 3 of the third round of the Ranji Trophy:
MPCA vs Rajasthan in Jaipur: After resuming their first innings on 306 for six, the Vineet Saxena-led Rajasthan were all-out for 379 on the third day at the KL Saini Ground.
MP who had earlier posted a first innings score of 256 were 200 for one when play ended on Day 3 courtesy Naman Ojha’s unbeaten century.
Saurashtra vs Hyderabad in Hyderabad: Saurashtra extended their lead to 344 on the third day of the ongoing match against Hyderabad. The visitors were 270 for six at stumps today. Akash Bhandari picked a four-wicket haul while Ashish Reddy took two. With 69 runs Sagar Jogiyani was the highest run-getter for Saurashtra.
Railways vs Punjab in Bhubaneswar: Railways were leading by 74 runs with eight wickets in hand when stumps were called on Day 3 at the East Coast Railway Sports Association ground.
Punjab skipper Udit Kaul who was unbeaten on 96 yesterday evening departed after completing his hundred, while Bipul Sharma was sent back by Hardik Rathod for 45. A while later the Punjab innings ended for 314. In the second innings Amit Paunikar took Railways to 183 for two with and unbeaten century. He was batting on 113 with PM Madkaikar on 19 when play ended today.
Gujarat vs Bengal in Kolkata: Powered by skipper Manoj Tiwary’s 191 and Laxmi Ratan Shukla’s unbeaten 113, Bengal went on to post 526 before declaring their innings. Gujarat who were bowled out for 260 in the first innings batting first, were reeling on 18 for four when play ended on the second day. After running out Priyank Panchal in the second over, the Bengal bowlers dealt early blows to send back the visitors’ top order and they will be pressing for a win at the Eden Gardens on the final day of the game tomorrow.
Gujarat are trailing by 248 runs with six wickets in hand. Venugopal Rao and Rush Kalaria were at the crease when stumps were called.
Tamil Nadu vs Maharashtra in Chennai: On Day 3 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, hosts Chennai were bundled out for 149. After top-scoring for Maharashtra in the first innings, Shrikant Mundhe was instrumental in TN's batting collapse. He and Chirag Khurana claimed four wickets each to wrap-up the opposition in 49.1 overs.
In reply Maharashtra were 75 for eight and required 118 to win with two wickets in hand as the match enters the final day. Lakshmipathy Balaji, Aushik Niwas, Malolan Rangarajan and Yo Mahesh picked two wickets apiece to keep the home team in a commanding position. Middle-order bat Ankit Bawne was not out on 18 with Akshay Darekar on one when play was called off.
Haryana vs Odisha in Rohtak: Haryana were bowled out for 300 after resuming their second innings on Day 3 on 165 for five. Abhimnayu Khod contributed 74 while Jayant Yadav made 66 lower down to help post a 148-run target for Odisha.
In reply, Odisha were 60 for three and needed 88 runs to win with seven wickets in hand on the last day.
Baroda vs Delhi in Delhi: Baroda added 36 runs to their overnight score until they were bowled out for 561 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. In response the home team was 215 for three with Mithun Manhas and Rajat Bhatia not out on 41 and 10 respectively when play was called off on the third day of the four-day game.
Andhra vs Himachal in Amtar: After taking guard on the third day, HP’s Rishi Dhawan departed without adding to his overnight score of 40, while Paras Dogra was sent back by Paidikalva Vijaykumar for 122 a few overs later. With the departure of the duo, the rest of the line-up succumbed to the AP attack without putting up a fight. Vijaykumar claimed six wickets in the innings, while Duvvarapu Shivkumar chipped in with two to wrap up the tail and end the HP innings for 265.
When play ended today, AP were 181 for three in their second innings and led by 288 runs. Bodapati Sumanth (73) and Amol Mazumdar (89) were involved in a 163-run unbroken stand when stumps were called.
Kerala vs Assam in Malappuram: After being bowled out for 286 earlier today, Assam were marginally ahead of Kerala who made 264 in their first innings. After resuming their innings today, Dheeraj Jadhav (98) and Tarjinder Singh (92) missed out on centuries.
Kerala were 168 for one in their second innings when play was called off today; Abhishek Hegde was not out on 74 with VA Jagdeesh on 92.
SSCB vs Tripura in Agartala: Resuming at 53 for no loss on Day 3, Tripura were 285 for four in reply to Services’ first innings score of 563. Opener Samrat Singha was involved in a 101-run opening stand with Subhrajit Roy, before being bowled by Suraj Yadav. Roy went on to score 64, while No.3 bat Udit Patel missed out on a half-century by one run. Centurion Abbas Ali was unbeaten on 108 with Abhijit Dey on eight when play ended today.
Shadab Nazar picked two wickets for SSCB.
Jharkhand vs Goa in Jamshedpur: Jharkhand skipper Shahbaz Nadeem claimed a fiver to bowl Goa out for 208 and enforced the follow on. Except for Ravikant Shukla who made a valiant 64 the rest of the Goa caved in to the Jharkhand attack at the Keenan Stadium on Day 3. Goa were 16 for no loss when play was called off. With Goa trailing by 136 runs, the host’s will be looking for an outright win when they take the field on the last day.
UPCA vs Karnataka in Meerut: After bowling out Karnataka for 181 yesterday, UP extended their lead to 445 with five wickets in hand at the end of the third day. The Suresh Raina-led team was 343 for five when play ended today. Bhuvneshwar Kumar who started the day with one run against his name, went on to score 91, while Parvinder Singh slammed 143 not out to help UP raise a mountain of runs.
Stuart Binny bowled Mohammad Kaif, while Karnataka off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham claimed Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
