Summary

Nizar Niyas claims six for Kerala

Kerala pacer Nizar Niyas picked six wickets against Goa in the eighth round of the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 season. Meanwhile, Hyderabad's DB Ravi Teja scored 153 against J&K in Jammu. Here is the round-up for the day:

Group A

Karnataka vs Mumbai: Resuming their innings on 228 for seven, Karnataka were bowled out for 251 earlier in the day. Lokesh Rahul was run out for 133 on the second day. Besides the opener, the rest of the line-up was sent back for low scores. Shardul Thakur claimed four wickets in the innings. At stumps, Mumbai had made 217 for seven in reply. Siddhesh Lad was batting on 59 with Javed Khan on 33 at the end of day's play. HS Sharath and S Gopal had taken three wickets each.

Punjab vs Delhi: Skittled out for 74 on the first day, Punjab bowled Delhi out for 150. Resuming on 46 for two, the home team lost wickets at regular intervals as Manpreet Gony and S Kaul ran through the line-up at the Roshanara Stadium. Both bowlers claimed three wickets each, while Sandeep Sharma and Jaskaran Singh picked a wicket apiece.

Jiwanjot Singh then led Punjab's revival and was batting on 105 at stumps. The visitors were 177 for three with a 101-run lead when play ended.

Gujarat vs Odisha: Although Gujarat captain Parthiv Patel returned to the dressing room without adding to his overnight score of 109, Venugopa Rao went on to make 177 before being sent back by Govind Podder. Gujarat then declared their first innings on 479 for eight later in the day. At stumps, Odisha were 111 for one with Natraj Behera batting on 64.

Jharkhand vs Vidarbha: After resuming their innings on 233 for five, Jharkhand were bowled out for 332 in the first innings on the second day. Vidarbha's Akshay Wakhare claimed a five-wicket haul in the innings.

At stumps, Vidarbha were 101 for one with Faiz Fazal batting on 41 with Ravi Jangid on 21. Jharkhand skipper, Shahbaz Nadeem claimed the only wicket that fell.

Group B

Baroda vs Saurashtra: In the ongoing match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, Saurashtra were trailing by 185 runs with four wickets in hand at stumps on Day 2.

Baroda’s lower order succumbed to the Saurashtra attack and the team was bowled out for 400 after resuming on 348 for five earlier in the day. After B Bhatt gave Baroda their first breakthrough, Utkarsh Patel claimed three wickets, while Murtuja Vahora took two to leave Saurashtra on 215 for six at the end of day's play.

Railways vs SSCB: Nishan Singh's fiver helped bundle Railways out for 107 after resuming on 85 for five on the second morning. Although Anureet Singh claimed two early wickets to leave Services on nine for two, Yashpal Singh rallied on to take the team to 137 for five at stumps. He was batting on 65 with Sarabjit Singh on three at the end of day's play. Anureet Singh had claimed three wickets.

UPCA vs MPCA: No play was possible at Green Park in Kanpur on the second day of the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh match due to bad light.

Tamil Nadu vs Rajasthan: Rajasthan claimed the remaining five TN wickets for 87 runs on the second day to bowl the hosts out for 318. Pankaj Singh finished with five wickets in the bag in the innings. In reply, the visitors were 52 without loss with all wickets intact and trailing by 266 runs when play ended on Monday. S Saraf and Vineet Saxena were batting on 29 and 23 respectively at stumps.

Group C

J&K vs Hyderabad: Centuries by D B Ravi Teja and Hanuma Vihari had powered Hyderabad to 314 for four at stumps. Teja was batting on 153 with Amol Shinde on four whe play ended. Vihari was sent back for 109 by Bandeep Singh in the ongoing match against J&K.

Himachal vs Maharashtra: Sent back Rishi Dhawan, Maharashtra opener Harshad Khadiwale missed out on his century by eight runs on the second day. But he had taken the team to 237 before being the last batsman to return to the dressing room on the second day. At stumps, Maharashtra were 319 for four with lead of 91 runs so far. When play ended Ankit Bawne was batting on 76 with Chirag Khurana on 37.

Tripura vs Andhra: After wrapping up the reminder of the Tripura innings to bowl them out for 179 earlier in the day, Andhra were bundled out for 163. Tripura's Rana Dutta claimed a five-wicket haul, while MB Murasingh picked three wickets to help bowl Andhra out. B Sumanth was the highest scorer for Andhra with 55 as the rest of the line-up collapsed in Agartala.

Thanks to their first-innings lead Tripura were 36 runs with seven wickets in hand at stumps. They had lost their top three batsmen and were 20 for three at the end of day's play. D Shivkumar had removed both the openers to give Andhra early breakthroughs.

Kerala vs Goa: Kerala's N Niyas claimed six wickets to bowl Goa out for 242 and help his side take a marginal first-innings lead. Sagun Kamat top-scored for the home team with 96 runs, while the rest of the line-up caved in.

At stumps, the Kerala openers had faced one over but were yet to open their account.
