Jadhav strikes double-ton for Maharashtra
Maharashtra’s Kedar Jadhav scored 204 against Hyderabad after resuming on his overnight score of 175, while Rohit Motwani too scored a century for the team. Here is the round-up for Day 2:
Group A
Mumbai vs Delhi: Half-century by stand-in captain Zaheer Khan helped Mumbai to 324 before the hosts were bowled out on the second day. Delhi pacer Parvinder Awana claimed Balwinder Sandhu, Hiken Shah and Zaheer to help wrap up the Mumbai innings and finish with a five-wicket haul.
Unmukt Chand and Gautam Gambhir then scored 62 before Javed Khan ended the opening stand. And while Zaheer dismissed Virender Sehwag for nine, Javed also accounted for the wicket of Gambhir (64). At the close of play, Delhi were 191 for three with Mithun Manhas (60) and Manan Sharma (13) at the crease.
Karnataka vs Gujarat: Karnataka were bowled out for 306 after resuming on 226 for seven. In reply, Gujarat were 216 for five at stumps on the second day. Skipper Parthiv Patel had scored 83 for the visitors. When play ended, BH Merai was not out on 41 with AR Patel, who was batting on six.
Odisha vs Vidarbha: Centurions Niranjan Behera (131) and Subhrajit Sahoo (114*) had powered Odisha to 453 for six before they declared their innings on the second day of the four-day encounter. Their bowlers then struck early to remove opener A Ubarhande and Azhar Sheikh and left Vidarbha tottering on 14 for two at the end of day’s play.
Haryana vs Jharkhand: After bowling Haryana out for 309 in the first innings earlier in the day, Jharkhand were trailing by 175 runs with six wickets in hand at stumps.
Jharkhand were left reeling on 40 for four by Mohit Sharma and Joginder Sharma. Mohit sent back openers, Akash Verma and M Vardhan to leave Jharkhand reeling on two for seven, while Joginder dismissed Bhavik Thaker and Ishank Jaggi. When play ended, Jharkhand were 134 for four with Saurabh Tiwary batting on 68 with Bhavin Thakker on 34.
Group B
Saurashtra vs UPCA: Double-century by Aarpit Vasavada and Sheldon Jackson’s 140 put Saurashtra in a commanding position at the end of the second day’s play in Rajkot. The home team had piled on a mammoth 570 for seven when play ended. Kamlesh Makvana was unbeaten on 63 with DA Jadeja on two at stumps.
SSCB vs Rajasthan: Having bowled Services out for 325 earlier in the day, Rajasthan were trailing by 194 with eight wickets in hand at the end of the day’s play. Services’ middle-order batsman Rajat Paliwal was unbeaten on 108, while Rajasthan’s Pankaj Singh finished with a five-wicket haul in the innings.
Rajasthan were 131 for two when stumps were called with Robin Bist and Rajesh Bishnoi in the middle.
Baroda vs Railways: Railways were leading by 32 runs with seven wickets in hand at the end of Day 2 against Baroda. Resuming his innings on 12, Railways’ top-order batsman NS Bhille scored 51 before being run out. H Rawle was not out on 50, while Arindam Ghosh was batting on 76 at the close of play with the team on 208 for three.
MPCA vs Bengal: Resuming the innings on 293 for four, Madhya Pradesh went on to score 431 runs in their first innings before being bowled out on the second day. Facing a formidable task, Bengal were helped to 117 for one by Arindam Das who was batting on 70 when play ended. The opener had lost his partner Rohan Banerjee (29) and was batting with Anustup Majumdar (12*) when stumps were called.
Group C
Maharashtra vs Hyderabad: Kedar Jadhav starred in Maharashtra’s run-fest by bringing up his double century on day two of the game while Rohit Motwani made 107 to help the team to a mammoth 616 for nine before they declared their first innings. Sangram Atitkar had also contributed 98 as Maharashtra piled on runs.
In reply Hyderabad were on 53 with openers TL Suman and Akshath Reddy batting in the middle.
Andhra vs Assam: Assam were trailing by 181 runs in the first innings with six wickets in hand when play ended at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur.
Earlier, Andhra lost their remaining five wickets for 64 runs in the morning and were bowled out for 297. Assam’s Abu Nechim Ahmed finished with a five-wicket haul in the innings. In reply, Assam were 116 for four with opener Dheeraj Jadhav batting on 44 at close of play. Niraj Patel was batting at the other end and was yet to open his account when play was called off.
Tripura vs Kerala: Bowled out for 297 on the second day, Kerala were leading by 157 runs when play ended on Friday. Tripura’s Rana Dutta claimed four, Abhijit Dey picked three wickets, while A Chakraborty claimed two and V Saha chipped in with one to help wrap up the opposition’s innings. Rohan Prem was the top-scorer for Kerala with 80 runs.
Earlier, Tripura were bowled out for 140 in the first innings after adding just four runs to their overnight score.
J & K vs Himachal: Himachal Pradesh piled on 454 runs before being bowled out. Paras Dogra was the highest run-getter for the team with 96, while Rishi Dhawan and Akshay Chauhan scored half-centuries for HP as they put up a formidable first-innings total on the board.
Vikarmjeet Malik then removed J&K opener Ian Dev Singh without a run on the board. The visitors were 14 for one in the second innings and trailing by 262 runs when play ended.
