Delhi, Odisha, HP claim victories

Varun Sood bowled Delhi to a thumping victory against Gujarat on the final day of the fourth round of Ranji Trophy 2014-15. Odisha beat Haryana while HP claimed an innings and 133 runs victory over Assam. Here are the highlights for the day: Group A Bengal vs Mumbai: Due to a wet outfield play was called off on the fourth day at the Eden Gardens and the match resulted in a draw. Mumbai were awarded three points for a first innings lead while Bengal received one point. Madhya Pradesh v Baroda: Baroda gained three points on the basis of their first innings lead against Madhya Pradesh who received one. Following-on, MP resumed their second innings on 97/6 and were 119/6 when play was called off. Tamil Nadu vs Railways: Railways picked three points on the basis of their first innings lead while hosts, Tamil Nadu received one for their effort at the Chepauk. Resuming their first innings on 133/6, the visitors were helped to a first innings lead by the lower middle-order. Ashish Yadav and Arnab Nandi resumed their innings and scored half-centuries before returning to the pavilion while Anureet Singh made 35 to help seize the lead. With TN declaring their second innings on 133/3 the match was called off and a draw declared. Uttar Pradesh vs J & K: The unfinished match in Kanpur was declared a draw and both teams were granted a point each. When play was called J&K were 199/8. RP Singh had claimed four while Piyush Chawla took two and Praveen Kumar picked one to wreck the visitors line-up even as Ian Chauhan anchored it with 103 not out. Earlier in the day, UP declared their first innings on 299/5 after resuming it on 267/5. Tanmay Srivastava was the top-scorer for the hosts with 99. There was no play on Day 3 of the game. Group B Delhi vs Gujarat: Delhi earned seven points for their innings and 109-run win against Gujarat in the ongoing tournament. Shivam Sharma and Varun Sood claimed the remaining three visitors' wickets on the fourth morning to bowl the hosts to a comprehensive win. With six wickets in the second innings, Sood returned with a ten-wicket haul in the match. Haryana vs Odisha: Odisha gained six points from their seven-wicket win over Haryana at Lahli. Odisha needed 31 runs and had nine wickets in hand when play resumed on the final day. Haryana pacer, Mohit Sharma who had sent back Natraj Behera for a naught yesterday, also dismissed Girija Rout and Abhilash Mallick for ducks without a run added to the visitors' overnight score of eight. But Govind Podder and Biplab Samantray then took the team across the line. Rajasthan vs Vidarbha: Vidarbha received three points on the basis of a first innings lead as Rajasthan put up a better performance in the second innings to pull off a draw. Facing a mammoth 405-run target, Rajasthan resumed their second innings on 33/1 on the fourth morning in Jaipur. Vineet Saxena and Robin Bist scored half-centuries while the rest of the line-up fought to avert a loss and earn one point while the Vidarbha bowlers pursued an outright win. The hosts were 236/7 when play ended. Saurashtra vs Punjab: Punjab gained three points on the basis of their first innings lead while hosts Saurashtra picked one point. Despite Sagar Jogiyani's 145 and Sheldon Jackson's unbeaten 181 the hosts couldn’t surpass Punjab's mammoth first innings score. Responding to the visitors 659/7 declared, Saurashtra were bowled out for 559. Siddarth Kaul and Yuvraj Singh picked three wickets apiece. When play ended Punjab were 15 without loss in the second innings. Group C Assam vs Himachal Pradesh: Rishi Dhawan helped bowl HP to an innings and 133 runs victory over Assam. Asked to follow-on the hosts were bowled out for 198 on the fourth day. Dhawan claimed 5/53 while Vikramjeet Malik and A Bedi claimed two wickets each while B Sharma took one. Hyderabad vs Services: Hosts Hyderabad were granted three points on the basis of their first innings lead while Services got one for their effort. Services were bowled out for 285 earlier on the last day of the match after resuming their second innings on 96/4. SSCB's Akash Bhandari claimed five, Medhdi Hasan took three and Ravi Kiran picked two wickets. Chasing the 254-run target, Hyderabad were 52/1 when play was called off later in the afternoon. Jharkhand vs Kerala: Kerala picked three points on the basis of their first innings lead while Jharkhand received one in the drawn encounter at Dhanbad. Resuming their second innings on 68/1, Jharkhand were 337/5 when play was called off. Surabh Tiwary scored an unbeaten 125 in the second innings of the match. Tripura vs Goa: Tripura were awarded three points on the basis of their first innings lead while Goa received one. On the fourth day of the match, Goa declared their second innings on 238/9 after resuming on 123/5 in the morning. When play was called off later in the day Tripura were 113/1 in the second innings.
