KS Bharat slams double ton, Rush Kalaria claims 8 on Day 1
While 26 wickets fell in Ahmedabad on the first day in the Gujarat vs Haryana encounter, Andhra’s KS Bharat's (226*) was the only double-centurion on the day and responsible for the run-fest against Goa. Here are the highlights of first day’s play of the last league round of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 season: Group A Baroda vs Tamil Nadu: Aswin Crist-led TN attack skittled the hosts out for a paltry 149 on the first day. While Baroda opener Saurabh made 50 and middle-order bat, H Pandya scored 47 the rest of the line-up crumbled in Vadodara in a must win game. Crist picked 4/40 while P Parameswaran took 3/46 in the effort. In reply, TN were 77/2 at stumps with Baba Aparajith and Dinesh Karthik in the middle. Madhya Pradesh vs Bengal: Madhya Pradesh were comfortably poised on 274/1 at stumps on the first day. Aditya Shrivastava was unbeaten on 118 with Rameez Khan batting on 24. Jalaj Saxena who was involved in the 222-run opening stand was sent back by Bengal's Manoj Tiwary for 109. Mumbai vs Karnataka: In their must win game at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai were 342/5 at stumps on Day 1 after electing to bat against table-toppers Karnataka. While Aditya Tare had held the innings together for the better part of the morning session with a determined 72, Siddhesh Lad (94*) and Nikhil Patil (85*) salvaged the innings with an unbroken 175-run partnership. Coming together at 167/5, the pair had taken Mumbai to a respectable position at the end of day’s play. Railways vs Uttar Pradesh: Propelled by Mahesh Rawat's 146, Railways were 331/8 at stumps on the first day. At the end of day's play Ashish Yadav was batting on 12 with KK Upadhyay yet to open his account. Praveen Kumar had picked 4.68 during the day. Group B Gujarat vs Haryana: 26 wickets fell in Ahmedabad on the first day in the Gujarat vs Haryana encounter. Electing to bat, Haryana were bundled out for 129 by the Rush Kalaria-led attack. The bowler claimed 4/36 as he ran through the top-order while Ramesh Powar wrapped-up the innings with 5/40. The visitors then skittled out the hosts for 125 securing a marginal first innings lead and setting-up a platform for a result. Amit Mishra picked 5/37 while J Yadav took 4/45 in the innings. At stumps, Haryana were 71/6 in the second innings with Kalaria having claimed 4/17. Maharashtra vs Vidarbha: Asked to bat in Pune, Mahrashtra were 262/4 at stumps on Day 1. While opener S Gugale had scored 76, Ankeet Bawane was batting on 56 at the end of day's play with R Tripathi (38*). Odisha vs Saurashtra: Basant Mohanty and Alok Mangraj claimed four wickets apiece while Deepak Behera took two to bowl Saurashtra out for 218 on the first day. Put in to bat, the visiting batsmen with the exception of Chirag Jani succumbed to the hosts attack in Cuttack. Jani was left stranded on 99 as Saurashtra folded in 79.3 overs in the first innings. Odisha played one over before stumps but are yet to open their account. Punjab vs Delhi: Delhi were bowled out for 249 after opting to bat in Patiala. While Manan Sharma was stranded on 44 the rest of the line-up caved in to the Punjab attack. Sandeep Sharma, Rajwinder Golu and Vinay Choudhary picked three wickets each. Sumit Narwal and Sharma then picked a wicket each to leave Punajb on 30/2 at stumps. Group C Andhra Pradesh vs Goa: KS Bharat's 226 not out and M Sriram's 108 not out has powered Andhra to a mammoth 408/1 on the first day after being asked to bat at Ongle. Amogh Desai took the only wicket that fell during the day. Hyderabad vs Himachal Pradesh: Powered by Paras Dogra's century, HP were 269/5 at sumps on the first day. The middle-order batsman was batting on 101 with BB Sharma on 88 at the end of day's play. Pragyan Ojha claimed 3/89 during the course of the day. Jharkhand vs Services: RR Singh and Varun Aaron wrecked the Services top-order picking three wickets each while Shahbaz Nadeem and Samar Quadri took two wickets each to wrap-up the opposition for 230 after Jharkhan elected to field. In reply, Jharkhand were 102/2 at stumps with SP Gautam and RR Singh in the middle. Kerala vs Assam: Assam were 197/4 at the end of day's play against Kerala. Anchoring the innings, opener Dheeraj Jadhav was batting on 73 with Tarjinder Singh on 24 at stumps.
