Gujarat claim win; Andhra’s KS Bharat slams triple-ton

With six points from a nine-wicket win against Haryana, Gujarat are currently placed at No. 3 in the Group B points table. Here are the highlights of the second day of the last round of the league phase of Ranji Trophy 2014-15. Group A Baroda vs Tamil Nadu: Baroda were leading by 34 runs in the second innings with seven wickets in hand at the end of the day's play. Sagar Manglorakar claimed 7/49 to bowl TN out for 188 earlier in the day. Baroda then chipped away at the deficit and inched past the opposition’s lead to go to stumps on 73/3 with D Hooda and Yusuf Pathan (14*) at the crease. Madhya Pradesh vs Bengal: Bengal were trailing by 406 runs with seven wickets in hand at stumps. A Shrivastava's 141 and J Saxena's 109 followed by useful contributions from the middle-order helped MP declare their innings on 514/6 on the second day. In reply Bengal were 108/3 with S Chatterjee batting on 58 with W Saha on 11*. Mumbai vs Karnataka: Karnataka were trailing by 261 runs at stumps on Day 2 after bowling Mumbai out for 436 in the morning. While both their overnight batsmen - Siddhesh Lad and Nikhil Patil registered their maiden centuries, the hosts added 94 runs to their overnight score before losing the remaining five wickets. In reply, Robin Uthappa and R Samarth then got the visitors off to a good start with a 93-run opening stand until the former was sent back. Anchoring the innings, Samarth (85*) took the visitors to stumps on 175/2 with Manish Pandey. Railways vs Uttar Pradesh: UP were trailing by 79 runs with three wickets in hand after bowling Railways out for 345. The Anureet Singh and K Upadhyay-led attack then wrecked the UP top-order to push the opposition on the back-foot. Courtesy of Mohammad Saif's 84* UP were 266/7 at the end of the day's play. Upadhayay, Anureet and R Mali picked two wickets each. Group B Gujarat vs Haryana: Gujarat cruised to a nine-wicket win against Haryana on the second day of the game. Resuming on 71/6, Haryana were bowled out for 110 in the second innings. Rush Kalaria claimed 5/26 while H Patel picked 3/29. Chasing 115, Parthiv Patel then helped the side across the line with 62*. Batting with the captain, C Gandhi was unbeaten on 42 as Gujarat won the game to claim six points. Maharashtra vs Vidarbha: Following on, Vidarbha were trailing by 202 runs at the end of the day's play. Ankit Bawne's unbeaten 100 helped Maharashtra to 342 before being bowled out. Dominic Joseph then picked 5/19 while S Mundhe took 3/14 to skittle Vidarbha out for 114. Odisha vs Saurashtra: Saurashtra were leading by 194 runs with four wickets in hand in the second innings at the end of day's play. The side bowled out hosts Odisha for 88 earlier in the day. S Tyagi picked 5/24 while J Unadkat took 3/33. The Deepak Behera-led attack then ran through Saurashtra's top-order in the second innings to leave them on 64/6 at the end of day's play. D Behera took 3/9 while B Mohanty took 2/12. Punjab vs Delhi: Delhi were leading by 34 runs in the second innings at the end of day's play. Resuming on 30/2, Punjab were bowled out for 263 earlier in the day. Varun Sood claimed 4/73 while Manan Sharma picked 3/51 and Shivam Sharma took 2/26. Delhi were 48/0. Group C Andhra Pradesh vs Goa: Goa were trailing by 361 runs with two wickets remaining at the end of day's play. Powered by KS Bharat's triple-ton Andhra declared their innings on 548/5. In reply Goa were reeling on 187/8 at stumps. DP Vijaykumar took three while D Siva Kumar and CV Stephen took two wickets each. Hyderabad vs Himachal Pradesh: Hyderabad were trailing by 475 runs with all wickets intact at the end of day's play. Earlier in the day HP were bowled for 511. Resuming on 269/5 in the morning the visitors were propelled by Bipul Sharma's 176 after P Dogra set up the stage with 137. Pragyan Ojha and B Sandeep picked four wickets each. Hyderabad were 36 without loss at the end of day's play. Jharkhand vs Services: SP Gautam scored 150 to power Jharkhand to a first innings lead against services in the ongoing game. S Yadav and Roshan Raj claimed three wickets each to bowl out the side for 387 on the second day. Kerala vs Assam: Kerala were trailing by 292 runs with six wickets in hand at the end of day's play. Resuming on 197/4 Assam were bowled out for 344. Amit Verma and PR Prem picked three wickets each. In reply Kerala were 52/4 at the end of day's play. P Das claimed 3/22 at the end of day's play.
