Ishank Jaggi’s double-ton puts Jharkhand on top

Jharkhand’s Ishank Jaggi scored an unbeaten double-century against Hyderabad while TN’s Baba Indrajith scored his maiden first class century against Mumbai. Here are the highlights of the second day of the seventh round of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 season: Group A Jammu & Kashmir vs Railways: Railways were 50/1 at stumps on Day 1 and play could not take place on the second day at the Karnail Singh Stadium in Delhi due to bad weather. Karnataka vs Baroda: Baroda were bowled out for 335 earlier in the day after resuming their first innings on 320/8 earlier in the day. Sagar Manglorkar then accounted for Robin Uthappa in the second over and followed-up with the wicket of R Samarth 26 runs later to push the hosts on the back-foot. However, Lokesh Rahul's 89 held the Karnataka innings together even as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. Irfan Pathan claimed the important wicket of Manish Pandey while Swapnil Singh sent back CM Gautam and Karun Nair later in the day. The defending champions were 233/6 with Shreyas Gopal and Abrar Kazi in the middle at the end of day's play in Mysore. Tamil Nadu vs Mumbai: Baba Indrajith notched up his maiden first-class century after Vijay Shankar had laid the foundation with a determined 95 powered TN to a mammoth 417 on the second day and put the hosts in a commanding position. Mumbai who were bundled out for a paltry 141 on the first day had lost opener Akhil Herwadkar and were 12/1 at the end of day's play in Chennai. Uttar Pradesh vs Bengal: Bengal were 141/4 at stumps on Day 1. Play could not take place on the second day at Ghaziabad on the second day due to rain. Group B Gujarat vs Vidarbha: After conceding a 12-run first innings lead to Gujarat on the second day, Vidarbha were 39/1 and leading by 27 runs at stumps on Day 2. Earlier, in the day, Gujarat resumed their innings on 39 with all wickets intact, a crucial 75-run knock by Manprit Juneja besides useful contributions from the top-order and a vital 32 Rush Kalaria lower down helped the hosts take a first innings lead in Surat. Maharashtra v Delhi: At 240/7, Delhi were trailing by 90 runs in the first innings on Day 2 in Pune. The visitors claimed Maharashtra's remaining four wickets for 18 runs after the hosts resumed on 312/6 on the second morning. Delhi then lost opener Unmukt Chand to Anupam Sanklecha for one. However, skipper Gautam Gambhir anchored the innings and was batting on 93 with Rajat Bhatia (43*) at the end of day's play. Odisha v Team Rajasthan: Half-centuries by C Bist and Deepak Chahar (57*) helped Team Rajasthan to 305 after Vineet Saxena's departure on 106 earlier in the day. In reply Odisha were 144/9 and trailing by 161 runs in the first innings at stumps on Day 2. Pankaj Singh claimed four while Chahar picked three and Tanveer-Ul-Haq and A Choudhary chipped in with a wicket each to tip the match in Team Rajasthan's favour. Saurashtra v Haryana: Having secured a marginal first innings lead earlier in the day, Saurashtra had extended it to 174 at stumps on Day 2. Haryana were bowled out for 226 earlier in the day after resuming on 74/3. Kamlesh Makvana ran through the line-up claiming six wickets while D Jadeja picked four to warp-up the opposition. Saurashtra then lost both their openers early and were 11/2 but Sheldon Jackson (56*) held the innings together and helped build on the lead with J Shah (55*). Both batsmen had taken the home team to 162/3 in Rajkot at the end of day's play. Group C Himachal Pradesh vs Andhra Pradesh: AP were 123/2 at stumps on the first day. There was no play on Day 2 at Dharamsala due to rain. Goa vs Assam: At stumps on Day 2, Assam had taken a 68-run first innings lead and had five wickets in hand. Resuming their innings on 69/1,useful contributions from the top order helped the visitors secure a first innings lead. Gokul Sharma was the only half-centurion on the day. At the end of day's play, Assam were 243/5 with Trajinder Singh (39*) and J Syed Mohammad (25*) in the middle. Jharkhand vs Hyderabad: Ishank Jaggi's unbeaten 201, helped Jharkhand to a mammoth first innings total of 556/9 until declaring their innings on the second day. In reply, Hyderabad were 55/1 with Akshath Reddy and GH Vihari batting on 20 and 23 at stumps on the second day.

Trailing by 501 runs, the visitors have a mammoth task ahead of them with two days left in the game. Tripura vs Kerala: Kerala were trailing by 83 runs with nine wickets in hand in the first innings at stumps. The visitors bowled out Tripura for 179 earlier in the day. The Sandeep Warrier-led attack wrapped-up the hosts first innings after they resumed on 127/6 in the morning. The bowler returned with a four-wicket haul in the innings. Although Kerala lost KB Pawan for naught with 15 runs on the board, A Hegde (52*) and Sanju Samson (40*) carried the innings to 96/1 at stumps.
