Karnataka beat Mumbai to enter successive Ranji final
Karnataka marched in to the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 final with a comprehensive win over Mumbai at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In the second semi-final, Maharashtra are on 394 for five in the first innings at stumps as they look to over haul Tamil Nadu’s first innings score of 549. Here are the highlights at the end of fourth day’s play: Karnataka vs Mumbai: Karnataka cantered to a 112-run win on the penultimate day of the match. The defending champions claimed the last four Mumbai wickets for 55 runs on Saturday to clinch the game. While Abhishek Nayar did not resume his innings in the morning and retired hurt on his overnight score, Balwinder Singh Sandhu was the first to be sent back in the day. The lower-order bat was trapped lbw by Abhimanyu Mithun while Shardul Thakur was sent back by Shreyas Gopal 30 runs later. Ten runs later, Siddhesh Lad's resistance was ended for 74 (off 143) by Sreenath Arvind to end Mumbai’s 2014-15 Ranji Trophy campaign. Leading the attack, Mithun picked four wickets as Karnataka bowled the Aditya Tare-led side out for 332 runs in the second innings. Tamil Nadu vs Maharashtra: Maharashtra were trailing by 155 runs in the first innings with five wickets in hand at the end of day's play. S Gugale and Chirag Khurana went on to post centuries after resuming on their overnight scores 56 and 36 respectively. Gugale was the first to return to the dressing room for 154. Nine runs after Baba Aparajith removed the opener, Aswin Crist claimed R Tripathi. A little over ten overs later, Khurana was sent back by the same bowler for 125. With 330 runs on the board, Kedar Jadhav joined Ankeet Bawane in taking the innings forward but was sent back by Malolan Rangarajan for 26. When play ended for the day, Maharashtra were 394 for five with Bawane (47*) and captain Rohit Motwani (4*) in the middle.
