Ranji Trophy 2015-16 review, Nov 14
Summary

Delhi, Mumbai, Saurashtra continue to top tables after sixth round

With just three rounds left in the league phase of the 2015-16 season of the Ranji Trophy, Group B is likely to provide more excitement with very little separating the top teams. Group C is stable while Group A too could witness teams battling for a place in the knock-outs. Delhi are topping Group A with 24 points to their credit. With N Saini running through the Vidarbha line-up in the sixth round match, the Gautam Gambhir-led team cantered to victory in two days. All their three wins of the season have come at home. With two games left to play, Delhi will look to further strengthen their top spot in the table. After a slow start to the season, defending champions Karnataka are at the No 2 position with 21 points against their name. The Vinay Kumar-led team, who ruled the domestic circuit for the past two seasons are gaining momentum as the tournament enters the last part of the league phase. Robin Uthappa played a key role in their two victories that have come so far in the season. Vidarbha, Assam and Bengal are tied on points with all three teams having 16 points against their name. While Vidarbha have won two games so far, they still have two matches left to play in the league phase. Assam (two wins) and Bengal (one win) have three matches left to play. In the Group B, the battle for top three spots will be hard fought. The top five are still to play three games each and have two wins to their credit. While Mumbai continue to hold the No 1 position with 20 points, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab too have two wins each and are tied on 17 points. M a\P are ahead of Punjab in the points table on the net run rate. Mumbai were boosted by the presence of Rohit Sharma in their last match against Uttar Pradesh where they gained three points on the basis of first innings lead. The Aditya Tare-led team, who will be playing their seventh round match at Wankhede Stadium against Railways, will be looking to seal the top spot with a outright win at home. The round seven game between, MP and Gujarat, will be all the more important with the Parthiv Patel-led team sitting at No 4 have just a point less than the No 2 and No 3 teams. With 16 points against their name, Tamil Nadu too will be fighting to make a place for themselves in the top three. They will be taking on UP in Kanpur while Punjab will be playing an away match against Baroda. Group C however, is more stable as the tournament enters the business end of the league phase. Saurashtra, who have won four of their five matches and have drawn one, are sitting comfortably at the top with 28 points. Himachal Pradesh, who have been riding on Paras Dogra’s (624 runs in five matches) form are perched at No 2 with 21 points while Services are at No 3 with 17 points.
