Baroda beat Railways by an innings and 113 runs
Baroda coasted to a thumping innings and 113-run win against Railways on the penultimate day of the match of the second round of Ranji Trophy 2015-16. Here are the highlights for the day: Group A Assam vs Team Rajasthan: After resuming on 212 for four, Assam declared their innings on 422 for nine earlier in the day with a 236-run lead. KB Arun Karthik who had resumed his innings on 60 went on to score 151 before being trapped lbw by Puneet Yadav. The Assam lower-order batsmen made substantial contributions to help the team to a respectable lead. Arup Das then claimed Rajasthan's opener Vineet Saxena while Krishna Das sent back Pranay Sharma and R Bishnoi. 47 for three at stumps, Rajasthan were trailing by 189 runs with Ashok Menaria and Puneet Yadav in the middle. Delhi vs Vidarbha: At 47 for four in the second innings Vidarbha were leading by 43 runs at the end of day's play. At stumps, Ganesh Satish (9*) was batting with A Shanaware (4*) Earlier Delhi secured a marginal four-run lead in the first innings before being bowled out for 302 courtesy Manan Sharma (53) and S Rawat's (42) batting efforts. Karnataka v Bengal: At 58 for two in the second innings, Bengal were trailing by 167 runs after Karnataka declared their innings on 537 for nine earlier in the day. After resuming on 322 for four on the third morning, Karnataka were powered to a massive total by Shreyas Gopal. Karun Nair departed for 126 after while Gopal who had resumed his innings on 54 went on to make 139. HS Sharth and J Suchith then claimed A Das and Sreevats Goswami respectively. When play ended for the day, Naved Ahmed (24*) was batting with S Chatterjee (1*). Odisha vs Maharashtra: Odisha added 100 runs to their overnight score of 167 for before being bowled out earlier in the day. Running through the line-up, Shrikant Mundhe claimed six for 62 to help bowl the hosts out. Led by Swapnil Gugale's 71, Maharashtra then scored 156 for three in the second innings until close of play. At stumps, Maharashtra were leading by 170 runs with Kedar Jadhav and Ankit Bawne in the middle. Group B Andhra vs Gujarat: Gujarat were trailing by 89 runs with nine wickets in hand in the second innings at the end of third day's play. P Panchal and B Merai were at the crease when play ended for the day. Earlier in the day, Rush Kalaria (five for 55) and N Patel (three for 39) ran through the Andhra line-up to bowl them out for 241 after resuming on 196 for one. Baroda vs Railways: Baroda earned seven points for the innings and 113-run win against Railways on the penultimate day of the match. Resuming on 448 for six, Baroda declared their innings on 500 for eight earlier in the day with a 334-run lead. The Hardik Pandya-led attack then bowled Railways out for 221. Although middle-order batsmen, Prashant Awasthi (67) and Karn Sharma (51) put up some resistance the rest of the batsmen succumbed to the Baroda attack. Pandya claimed three for 30 while S Manglorkar, Yusuf Pathan and Bhargav Bhatt picked two wickets each and Swapnil Singh chipped in with one. Madhya Pradesh vs Tamil Nadu: Madhya Pradesh were 181 without loss in the first innings and trailed by 415 runs at stumps after TN declared their first innings on the third day on 596 for nine. After TN's batting marathon ended, A Shrivastava (73*) and Jalaj Saxena (99*) dropped anchor to put up a fight against the opposition's mountainous total. Mumbai vs Punjab: Punjab were trailing by 171 runs in the second innings with six wickets in hand at stumps after Mumbai declared their first innings on 569 for eight with a 415-run lead in the morning. Shardul Thakur then claimed opener Manan Vohra early to leave the visitors on 16 for one. However, Jiwanjot Singh anchored Punjab with a well compiled 91 while Mandeep Singh held the innings together after his departure. At the end of the day’s play, Punjab were 244 for four with Mandeep (82*) and Himanshu Chawla (31*) in the middle. Group C Goa vs Services: At 268 for eight in the first innings, Goa were trailing by 134 runs in reply to Services’ first innings score of 402 runs. Resuming on 63 for two on Saturday morning, the Goa innings was held together by Swapnil Asnodkar. The opener made 139 before being bowled by D Pathania later in the day. The bowler claimed three while P Poonia picked three wickets as well. S Jakati and RR Singh were at the crease when play was called off for the day. Himachal Pradesh vs Jammu & Kashmir: J & K were trailing by 176 runs with nine wickets in hand in the second innings at the end of day's play after HP had piled on 554 runs on the board. Shubham Khajuria and Paras Sharma had helped the visitors to 85 for one until play ended for the day. N Gangta's 203 after resuming on 111 and Bipul Sharma's 117 not out propelled HP to a massive first innings lead before being bowled out earlier on Day 3. Hyderabad vs Kerala: Hyderabad were trailing by 194 runs in the first innings with 2 wickets in hand at stumps in reply to Kerala's 401 in the first innings. K Monish claimed six for 91 as Kerala ran through the Hyderabad line-up on the third day. After resuming on 40 for one, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals throughout the day. Hyderabad were 207 for eight at the end of day's play with B Anirudh batting on 54 and CV Milind yet to open his account. Saurashtra vs Jharkhand: Saurashtra coasted to an eight-wicket win on the second day.
