Krishna Das take four for five
The third round of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 witnessed five teams being bowled out on the first day. Cuttack witnessed the most dramatic game of the day with 15 wickets falling on Day 1. Assam’s Krishna Das who had claimed ten wickets in the previous match took four for five against Odisha. In Mumbai, Murali Vijay was sent back by the hosts bowling spearhead and highest wicket-taker of 2014-15, Shardul Thakur. In the Group A encounter in Delhi in the Virender Sehwag-led Haryana vs Gautam Gambhir-led Delhi, the hosts were on top after bowling the visitors out. Services’ bowler R Raj claimed seven wickets to rout Jammu and Kashmir in their own backyard. Here’s how it unfolded: Assam vs Odisha: The Odisha vs Assam encounter seems to be heading for an early finish with 15 wickets falling on the first day. Opting to field, Odisha bowled Assam out for 92. Basant Mohanty picked five for 24 while Suryakant Pradhan and Alok Sahoo took two wickets each. Krishna Das who has been amongst wickets so far this season then ran through Odisha's top-order. He claimed four of the five wickets that fell until play ended for the day, leaving Odisha on 52 for five at stumps. His figures read 11-8-5-4 at the end of Day 1 in Cuttack. Haryana vs Delhi: Virender Sehwag was run out for 37 by Ishant Sharma to leave Haryana reeling on 66 for one. Although JJ Yadav made a valiant 44 lower down the order, the visitors were bowled out for 195. Running through the line-up, Manan Sharma claimed five for 57 while Ishant took 2 for 29 besides the crucial run out to bowl Haryana out in 78.1 overs. Delhi were 22 without loss with Unmukt Chand and Guatam Gambhir at the crease at stumps in Delhi. Tamil Nadu vs Mumbai : After Mumbai elected to field, Shardul Thakur forced and edge from Murali Vijay through to the wicketkeeper to give Mumbai a vital wicket up front. Jammu & Kashmir vs Services: Raushan Raj ran through the J &K line-up after Services elected to field to bundle the hosts out for 85. He picked seven for 38 while Diwesh Pathani, who has been amongst wickets this season took three for 37. At stumps the visitors were 152 for four with Yashpal Singh (45*) and Sufiyan Alam at the crease. After Services were left reeling on 49 for three, Rajat Paliwal (70) and Yashpal revived the innings and helped seize a first innings lead in Jammu. Tripura vs Goa: RR Singh-led Goa attack skittled Tripura out for 61 on the first day. The bowler claimed 3/17 while P Parameswaran and Shadab Jakati took wickets each. Darshan Misal picked two wickets in five balls later in the innings to wrap-up Tripura's first innings in 31.5 overs. In reply Goa were 161 for five at stumps with a lead of 100 runs. Misal was batting with Rahul Keni when play ended for the day in Porvorim. Sneak peek into what happened elsewhere: Karnataka vs Vidarbha: Manish Pandey's 104 and half-centuries by Robin Uthappa and Karun Nair helped Karnataka to 298 for six on the first day after being asked to bat in Bengaluru. Team Rajasthan vs Bengal: Rajasthan plodded their way to 102 for three until stumps on the first day after electing to bat in the Group A match in Kolkata. When play ended for the day, Vineet Saxena was batting on 31 while PR Yadav was yet to open his account. Gujarat vs Punjab: S Gohil and P Panchal got Gujarat off to a good start with a 117-run opening stand until the former was run out by Siddharth Gohil. Panchal went on to score 105 before Barinder Sran sent him back. Yuvraj Singh claimed B Merai to leave the visitors on 221 for three. Railways vs Uttar Pradesh: While Centurion ARB Singh helped Railways to a comfortable 316 for five on the first day, Kuldeep Yadav picked three for 64 after UP elected to field in the third round match in Ghaziabad Jharkhand vs Kerala: The Warrier-led Kerala attack bowled Jharkhand out for 202. Only three batsmen posted double-digit scores. Saurabh Tiwary was the top-scorer with 75 while Prakash Munda made 54. Warrier, who had claimed two wickets in the first over without a run on the board finished with 4/56 while Monish Kareparambil and Rohan Prem took two wickets each. The Jharkhand captain Varun Aaron the claimed Akshay Kodoth in the third over to leave Kerala on 3 for one with VA Jagdeesh and A Farzeen in the middle in Malappuram Hyderabad vs Himachal Pradesh: Tanmay Agarwal (104*) and GH Vihari (101) powered Hyderabad to 252 for three until stumps on the first day. Agarwal was batting with CV Milind when play ended for the day. HP's Ronit More picked two of the three wickets that fell during the day in Dharmasala
