Karthik, Parthiv notch up centuries, Aaron takes fifer

Services bowler Khalid Ahamd claimed seven for 61 in J & K’s second innings to setup a thumping win on the second day. The Soumik Chatterjee-led team beat the Mithun Manhas-led side by nine wickets. In other matches of the third round of Ranji Trophy 2015-16, wicketkeeper-batsmen Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel posted centuries for Tamil Nadu and Gujarat respectively. Varun Aaron was amongst wickets and claimed a fifer against Kerala. Here are the highlights for the day: Group A Delhi vs Haryana: Delhi 1st inn 237/10 (U Chand 68, J Yadav 4/78, Ashish Hooda 3/33); Haryana 2nd inn 68/2 (V Sehwag 29*, H Rana 12*) While Gautam Gambhir was dismissed for 18, Unmukt Chand's 68 and Nitish Rana's 48 followed by efforts of lower-order batsman, Pradeep Sangwan (34) and Sarang (26) helped the team to clinch a first innings lead. Although Haryana lost both their openers early, captain Virender Sehwag (29*) saw the visitors through to the end of day's play with H Rana. Karnataka vs Vidarbha: Karnataka 1st inn 350/10 (R Thakur 4/50); Vidarbha 1st inn 172/2 (W Jaffer 68, G Satish 81*) After forgettable outings in the first two matches, Wasim Jaffer scored a valuable 68 before being sent back by J Suchith. Ganesh Satish (81*) and Vidarbha captain, S Badrinath have dropped anchor as they look to close in on Karnataka's first innings score of 350. Bengal vs Team Rajasthan: Rajasthan 1st inn 140/5 Rain continues to play spoilsport in Kolkata. Rajasthan were 140 for five in the first innings when play was called off on Day 2. Odisha vs Assam: Odisha 1st inn 88/10 (K Das 7/21); Assam 2nd inn 137/8 (Syed Mohammed 42*, S Pradhan 3/27, B Mohanty 3/29) Krishna Das helped Assam seize a narrow four-run first innings lead with seven for 21 against Odisha. This the 25-year old pacer's third successive five-wicket haul. Although wickets continued to fall in Cuttack, Assam were led to 137/8 until stumps by Syed Mohammed (42*), giving the team a chance to fight for a win Group B Tamil Nadu vs Mumbai: TN 1st inn 434/10 (D Karthik 167, M Rangarajan 61, V Dabholkar 5/122); Mumbai 1st inn 45/2 (S Mangela 20*, J Kousik 1/4) After Mumbai’s bowlers dominated on first day, Dinesh Karthik ruled the proceedings in the morning at BKC in Mumbai. The wicketkeeper-batsman propelled his team to 434 with a well compiled 167. He found an able ally in Malolan Rangarajan (61) to keep the hosts’ bowlers at bay earlier in the day. Gujarat vs Punjab: Gujarat 1st inn 467/10 (P Patel 113, YV Rao 95, S Ladda 5/138); Punjab 1st inn 131/1 (J Singh 51, M Vohra 50*) Captain Parthiv Patel posted his second century of the season as he helped Gujarat to a formidable first innings total of 467 in Mohali. He made 113 to lift the visitors to a comfortable position while Y Venugopal Rao who partnered him in the effort missed out on a hundred by just five runs. Baroda vs Andhra: Baroda 1st inn 302/10 (Swapnil Singh 74, Stephan 4/72); Andhra 1st inn 96/0 (KS Bharat 50*, DB Prashanth Kumar 38*) Batting with the lower-order, No.8 batsman Swapnil Singh helped Baroda past the 300-run mark with a diligently compiled 74 off 159 balls. He was the last Baroda wicket to fall earlier in the day in Vizianagram. Railways vs Uttar Pradesh: Railways 1st inn 375/10 (A Gosh 50, Praveen Kumar 2/61); UP 1st inn 169/2 (A Shaukat 76, T Srivastava 75*, R Mali 2/61) UP openers - Tanmay Srivastava and Almas Shaukat got the team off to a good start as they looked to overhaul Railways' first innings total. Although Ranjit Mali struck two blows towards the end of the day, Srivastava stoically took UP to stumps with Mohammad Saif in Ghaziabad. Group C Goa vs Tripura: Goa 1st inn 257/10 (D Misal 62, R Keni 41, R Datta 4/44); Tripura 2nd inn 140/6 (MB Mura Singh 36*, S Jakati 2/26) Although Tripura have put up a better fight in their second innings, they still trail by 56 runs, while Goa need juts four wickets to pull off a thrilling innings win. Darshan Misal's 62-run knock and Rahul Keni's 41 earlier in the day to take Goa to 247 in the first innings has set-up the game in the team's favour. A combined effort by the Goa bowlers has pushed Tripura on the back-foot at the end of Day 2. Kerala vs Jharkhand : Kerala 1st inn 148/10 (R Prem 52, V Aaron 5/23); Jharkhand 2nd inn 47/2 (Ishan Kishan 30*, RV Gomez 2/8) A five-wicket haul by Captain Varun Aaron helped Jharkhand bowl Kerala out for 148 and seize a first innings lead. The fast-bowler finished with five for 23 in the innings in Malappuram. Hyderabad vs Himachal Pradesh: Hyderabad 1st inn 434/10 (S Kolla 53, R Dhawan 3/138, R More 4/84); HP 1st inn 84/0 (A Bains 51*, P Chopra 33*) Rishi Dhawan claimed three wickets to bowl Hyderabad out for 434. The pacer completed 200 wickets in first-class cricket with the scalps in Dharmasala Services vs Jammu & Kashmir: Services 1st inn 229/10 (R Paliwal 70, Y Singh 66, R Sharma 4/55); J & K 2nd inn 161/10 (K Ahamad 7/61); Services 2nd inn 18/1 Khalid Ahamd claimed seven for 61 to bowl J & K out for 161 and set-up the match for Services in Jammu. While Raushan Raj's seven-wicket haul in first innings had put the visitors in the driver's seat, Rajat Paliwal and Yashpal Singh's batting efforts helped Services maintain the advantage. Services then cantered to a nine-wicket win.
