Mithun Manhas puts J & K on top with 150
On the first day of the fifth round of Ranji Trophy 2015-16, wickets tumbled in Patiala as Punjab bowled Andhra out for a paltry total and themselves lost seven wickets until stumps. In Hyderabad Mithun Manhas scored 150 to put Jammu and Kashmir in a commanding position against the hosts. Besides the senior batsman, Baba Indrajith, Faiz Fazal and Rajat Pailwal made centuries on Friday. Rain and bad weather played spoilsport in Bhubaneshwar and Jamshedpur. While 48.2 overs could be bowled in the Odisha vs Delhi game, Jharkhand vs Goa match was called off for the day without even the toss taking place. Here are the highlights of Day 1:

Haryana v Bengal: Bengal 1st inn 257/8 (P Chandila 65, PK Shaw 54, S Rana 3/44) No.6 batsman, Pramod Chandila was the top-scorer for Bengal with 65 runs after the visitors were asked to bat in Lahli by Virender Sehwag. Team Rajasthan v Karnataka: Kar 1st inn 270/8 (M Agarwal 66, Samarth R 65, S Gopal 40*, A Choudhary 3/72, AB Singh 2/34) Mayank Agarwal (66) and Samarth (65) held the Karnataka innings together after being left on 51 for two. However, after the end of the stand with the team on 136, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Shreyas Gopal kept the team in the fray with a determined knock and was batting on 40 when play ended for the day at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Vidarbha v Maharashtra: Vid 1st inn 227/4 (F Fazal 110*, S Shrivastava 63, S Mundhe 2/42, A Sanklecha 2/45) Vidarbha opener Faiz Fazal was unbeaten on 110 at the end of day's play in Nagpur. After losing his opening partner off the second ball of the day, the experienced campaigner anchored the team on the first day. The 30-year old scored his ninth first-class century as it kept the hosts’ innings in the reckoning at Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground. Group B Baroda v Madhya Pradesh: MP 1st inn 198/7 (R Patidar 60, Harpreet S Bhatia 51, A Dane 30*, Swapnil Singh 2/30, A Sheth 2/33) R Arothe and A Sheth (2/33) sent back both MP openers - Aditya Shrivastava and Jalaj Saxena for ducks after the visitors opted to bat in Vadodara. Even as Rajat Patidar made a patient 60 off 154 and Harpreet Bhatia 51 off 114, the Baroda attack kept the opposition to 198 for seven by not allowing partnerships to form. Gujarat v Uttar Pradesh: UP 1st inn 272/9 (H Asnora 56*, E Dwivedi 50, R Kalaria 3/51, J Bumrah 2/34) Himanshu Asnora kept the UP innings afloat with a 134-ball 56* as he saw the team through to stumps on the first day after the visitors elected to bat in Valsad. The Rush Kalaria-led (3/51) attack kept the opposition on their toes by striking at regular intervals. The No.5 batsman was batting with Ankit Rajpoot when play ended for the day at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium.

Gurkeerat Singh Mann’s four for 14 had Andhra out for 80. Jiwanjot Singh then led Punjab to a first innings lead even as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end with DB Prashanth Kumar picking three and affecting a run-out. Railways v Tamil Nadu: TN 1st inn 288/6 (B Indrajith 121*, Anureet Singh 3/82)
Baba Indrajith anchored the TN innings en route his second first-class ton at the Karnail Singh Stadium. The experienced campaigner who belongs to the elite group of batsmen with 8000 Ranji Trophy runs scored his 26th first-class century in the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Jharkhand v Goa: Bad Weather did not allow for play to take place on the first day at the Keenan Stadium, Jamshedpur Services v Saurashtra: Services 1st inn 254/10 (R Paliwal 121, Yashpal Singh 55, Jaydev Unadkat 6/80) Saurashtra 1st inn 19/0 While Rajat Paliwal made 121 off 142 to take Services to a respectable total, Yashpal Singh was left stranded on 55* off 155 as wickets crumbled at the other end. The Jaydev Unadkat-led attack bowled the hosts out on the first day at the Palam A Ground, Model Sports Complex in Delhi. Axar Patel (1/71) picked the wicket of Praveen Kumar (0) in the Gujarat vs UP match. Ravindra Jadeja (9-2-29-0) went wicketless on Day 1 against Services. J & K’s Parvez Rasool was batting on 61* at stumps in Hyderabad.
Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary was sent back for 24 in the match against Haryana.
Virender Sehwag bowled six overs for 24 runs in Lahli against Bengal. Robin Uthappa was sent back by Deepak Chahar for 11 in Jaipur. Playing for Team Rajasthan Rajat Bhatia bowled eight overs for 18 runs including three maidens against Karnataka in Jaipur.
Vinay Kumar departed for 29 in Karnataka's match against Team Rajasthan.
