Ravindra Jadeja shines with bat and ball for Saurashtra

On the first day of the second round of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16, Ravindra Jadeja claimed six wickets and returned to score a half-century for Saurashtra against Jharkhand. In Mumbai, Shardul Thakur and BS Sandhu picked four wickets apiece against Punjab to put the hosts in command. Playing for his state side, Ishant Sharma claimed three against Vidarbha. Bengal’s Sudip Chatterjee, J & K’s Parvez Rasool, Gujarat’s Parthiv Patel and Kerala’s Rohan Prem were amongst the centurions on the first day. Here are the highlights for the day: Group A

Assam vs Team Rajasthan: Asked to bat Rajasthan were 147 for five at stumps in Guwahati. Opener Vineet Saxena's 42 was the top score for the visitors on the first day as they look to put together a respectable score on the board. At the end of day's play, Dishant Yagnik was batting on 15 with AB Singh on nine. Delhi vs Vidarbha: Vidarbha finished the day on 222 for six after being asked to bat by Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Wasim Jaffer was run out for zero while Ganesh Satish was sent back for five by Ishant Sharma. However, Faiz Fazal and S Badrinath stabilised the innings to take the team to the three-figure mark. At stumps, JM Sarma was batting on 37 while S Wagh is yet to open his account. Ishant claimed three for 26 while Pradeep Sangwan picked two wickets for the hosts. Karnataka v Bengal: After electing to field, Vinay Kumar claimed the top-order to leave the opposition on 26 for three. However, Chatterjee propelled Bengal to 312 for nine on the first day with a well compiled 145 while Wriddhiman Saha contributed 90 runs to the total. Karnataka’s HS Sharath also claimed three wickets while Abhimanyu Mithun and Shreyas Gopal chipped in with a wicket each. Odisha vs Maharashtra: Harshad Khadiwale's 74 and Ankit Bawane's 60 helped Maharashtra to a respectable total at the end of day's play as Biplab Samantray and Suryakant Pradhan claimed the top half of the visitors’ line-up. At stumps, R Tripathi (41*) and Chirag Khuarana (18*) had taken the team to 231 for five. Group B

Andhra vs Gujarat: P Vijay Kumar claimed the Gujarat openers early in the innings to leave the team on 14 for two. However, skipper Parthiv ensured the visitors a respectable score on the first day with a 122-run knock before being sent back by Siva Kumar. Gujarat were 250 for five with R BHatt and Niraj Patel in the middle.

Baroda vs Railways: Baroda's Hardik Pandya and Swapnil Singh claimed five and four wickets respectively to bowl Railways out for 166 earlier in the day. Karn Sharma's 51 was the top score for visitors after they opted to bat in Vadodara. 118 for one at stumps, the hosts were trailing by 48 runs at close of play with Kedar Devdhar (69*) and Aditya Waghmode (30*) in the middle. Madhya Pradesh vs Tamil Nadu: Asked to bat in Indore, Tamil Nadu were 225 for five at stumps on the first day. R Prasanna was batting on 51 with J Kousik on 14 when play ended for the day. MP's Ishwar Pandey and Udit Birla claimed two wickets each.

Mumbai vs Punjab: After Thakur and Sandhu claimed four wickets each to bowl Punjab out for 154, Mumbai were trailing by 51 runs with eight wickets in hand at stumps. Shreyas Iyer (61*) and Suryakumar Yadav had helped the hosts to 103 for two after being left on 41 for two by the Punjab pacers. Group C Goa vs Services: Services were comfortably perched on 230 for three at stumps after being asked to bat in Goa. Rajat Paliwal was batting on 57 while Yashpal Singh was yet to open his account when play ended for the day. Himachal Pradesh vs Jammu & Kashmir: Rasool's 101 not out helped J&K to 274 for eight on the first day after being asked to bat by Himachal Pradesh. He was batting with Mohammed Mudhasir when play ended for the day. Rishi Dhawan had claimed three wickets while A Vashisht took two.

Hyderabad vs Kerala: Powered by Prem's 106*, Kerala plodded on to 186 for five until play ended for the day in Hyderabad. Vishal Sharma and Akash Bhandari picked two wickets each as Hyderabad looked to keep the visitors line-up in check.

Saurashtra vs Jharkhand: Ravindra Jadeja claimed six for 71 while K Makwana picked four for 46 to bowl Jharkhand out for 168 after electing to bat in Rajkot. Ishan Kishan's 87 at the top of the order was the highest score for the visitors in the first innings. In reply Saurashtra seized a 37-run first innings lead courtesy Jadeja's 58 before being bowled out for 205 until close of play.
