Ranji Trophy 2019-20, Second Round: Day Two Wrap

Haryana registered an innings win in under two days while Pondicherry closed in on a big victory on the second day of the second round of the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 on Wednesday.

Here’s how the action unfolded:

Harshal Patel, who had picked up seven wickets in the first innings, completed a five-wicket haul in the second innings against Tripura as Haryana pocketed seven wickets after completing an innings and a 125-run win in Lahli, bowling out Tripura for 49 in the second innings.

While Haryana sealed a win, Pondicherry took giant strides towards sealing an innings win over Sikkim. After hundreds from Arun Karthik and Paras Dogra powered Pondicherry to 446/8d, Sikkim were reduced to 112/9.

In a Group C match in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, who were reduced to 121/6, reached 462/6 following an unbeaten 341-run stand between Ajay Mandal and Amandeep Khare. While Mandal completed a double ton before stumps on the second day, Khare was batting on 166 as Chhattisgarh took a 342-run lead over Uttarakhand.

Jharkhand, meanwhile, were 397/8 against Assam, who were bowled out for 162 in the first innings, on the back of Nazim Siddiqui’s 173 at stumps on day two in Ranchi. Odisha too managed to secure a first-innings lead against Services.

Jammu and Kashmir opened up a 255-run lead over Maharashtra in Pune following an unbeaten 79 from Suryansh Raina. The Shubham Singh Pundir-led side ended the second day at 155/4.

In a Group B game, Saurashtra were 211/3 at stumps, trailing Railways by 37 runs, with Cheteshwar Pujara still at the crease batting on 69. Tamil Nadu, meanwhile, were bowled out for 96, conceding a 62-run lead in the first innings. Although Himachal Pradesh were reduced to 133/7, they are currently leading Tamil Nadu by 195 runs.

Karnataka, who tamed Tamil Nadu in the first game, ended the second day at 168/4 after bowling out Uttar Pradesh for 281 following Abhimanyu Mithun’s six-wicket haul. While Devdutt Padikkal scored 74, Karnataka lost three quick wickets before the close of play.

The Madhya Pradesh-Baroda game at the Holkar Stadium in Indore is heading towards an interesting finish. Baroda, after bowling out Madhya Pradesh for 125 in the first innings, secured a 97-run lead after fifties from Krunal Pandya and Yusuf Pathan. Madhya Pradesh ended the day at 118/3.

Vidarbha, meanwhile, put themselves in a solid position in the game against Rajasthan. The defending champions declared their first innings at 510/8 after the hundreds from skipper Faiz Fazal, Mohit Kale and Akshay Wadkar and then before the end of the day’s play, scalped one Rajasthan wicket.

In a Group A clash in Ongole, Andhra managed to go past Delhi’s first-innings total of 215 on the back of skipper Ricky Bhui’s unbeaten 70. Bengal, meanwhile, are in a touching distance from Kerala’s first-innings total of 239. While Manoj Tiwary scored 51, opener Abhishek Kumar Raman scored a hundred as Bengal ended the second day’s play with the score of 236/6.

In Patiala, Punjab will be banking on skipper Mandeep Singh as they look to take the first-inning lead against Hyderabad. Punjab were 167/4 at stumps after Hyderabad were bowled out for 248.

In the Plate Group game, Nagaland secured a 284-run lead in the first innings against Manipur following Shrikant Mundhe’s 148 and 52 from Imliwati Lentur, who scalped seven wickets earlier in the match. Manipur were 84/3 at stumps.

Mizoram, meanwhile, responded strongly to Arunachal Pradesh’s first-innings total of 343. Hruaizela and Taruwar Kohli scored hundreds to take Mizoram to 368/2 at stumps. In another game in Plate Group, Sumiran Amonkar and Snehal Kauthankar’s tons helped Goa secure a first-innings lead against Meghalaya.

In Chandigarh, some solid contributions from the lower middle-order saw Chandigarh score 420 after put in to bat. Bihar, who had to bat for three overs, lost a wicket before stumps.
