Mumbai’s Pawar slams 160; TN’s Kaushik takes five
Mumbai, Jan 3: Building on their overnight total of 129 for five, Rajasthan made 421 runs before their innings ended on Day 2 of the Ranji quarterfinal against Hyderabad. Veteran opener Akash Chopra (142), and Dishant Yagnik (101), who were at the crease when play was called off yesterday, ensured that the visitors reached a healthy first-innings total.
M Hassan was the pick of the bowlers for Hyderabad with a five-wicket haul for 62 runs. Hyderabad had scored 35 runs for the loss of two wickets at the end of day’s play.
MPCA v Mumbai: After being reduced to 60 runs for the loss of five wickets yesterday, Mumbai fought back to post 346 for the loss of seven wickets on Day 2. No. 3 batsman Kaustabh Pawar anchored the visitors’ innings with an unbeaten 160. Mumbai lost only two wickets, those of of Hiken Shah (41) and Dhawal Kulkarni, (40) today; Ankeet Chavan (57) was at the crease with Pawar at stumps.
Claiming both the wickets that fell today, TP Sudhindra, who has tormented batsmen throughout the tournament, finished the day with a four-wicket haul.
Karnataka v Haryana: A century from Rahul Dewan, and valuable contributions from Amit Mishra (49) and Harshal Patel (32), saw Haryana take a 121-run lead against Karnataka. After Stuart Binny removed opener N Saini, the visitors lost wickets in quick succession. Binny and N Aiyappa ran through the visitors’ batting line-up claiming four and three wickets each while KP Appana sent back Dewan and J Yadav.
When play ended today, Karnataka had posted 122 for the loss of three wickets.
Tamil Nadu v Maharashtra: A five-for by J Kaushik helped end Maharashtra's first innings for 232 runs earlier today after the visitors had added just 28 runs to their overnight score. The pacer took four of the six wickets that Maharashtra lost today.
In reply, Tamil Nadu were 259 for the loss of three wickets at stumps. Opener Abhinav Mukund fell short of his century by just five runs.
