TN, K’taka, MPCA, Baroda register victories

Mumbai, Dec 9: Hosts Bengal crashed to a 10-wicket defeat against the visiting Tamil Nadu side on the final day of their Ranji Trophy Elite – Group B encounter. Beginning their second innings on Day 4 at 163 for four, Bengal were bowled out for 246 with Tamil Nadu pacers Yo Mahesh (three for 67) and L Balaji (two for 40) taking five wickets between them.

Tamil Nadu openers, Abhinav Mukund (25*) and Murali Vijay (9*) then knocked off the winning runs (target 32) in just 4.3 overs.

Punjab v Rajasthan: Hosts Rajasthan drew their Elite – Group A encounter with Punjab. The match was drawn after Rajasthan finished their first innings at 500 all out following which Punjab were 94 for two in 18 overs in their second innings

Orissa v Karnataka: Karnataka stormed to a 139-run win against Orissa after Stuart Binny’s five-wicket haul helped his side bowl the hosts out for a mere 161 runs while chasing a target of 301.

Saurashtra v Mumbai: The four-day Ranji Trophy Elite-Group A encounter between Saurashtra and Mumbai finished with a draw. Mumbai, who had been asked to follow-on after being bowled out for 360 in their first innings, were 276 for four in their second innings, with an unbeaten century from captain Wasim Jaffer (110*) saving them from the ignominy of defeat.

MPCA v Delhi: Madhya Pradesh narrowly beat Delhi by two wickets on the fourth day of their Elite-Group B encounter. Beginning the day at 240 for five, needing just 59 runs to win with five wickets in hand, MP lost three wickets before their tail enders managed to hold their nerve and eke out a close win for their side.

Baroda v Gujarat: Baroda registered an impressive 241-run win against Gujarat after bowling out the latter for a mere 123 on day 4 of their Elite – Group B Ranji Trophy tie. The star of Baroda’s win was left-arm medium pacer Gagandeep Singh who took five for 29 in 10.3 overs as Gujarat were bowled out for 123 while chasing a mammoth target of 365.
