Mumbai, Nov 20: The Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Karnataka at the Brabourne Stadium ended in a draw securing three points for Karnataka thanks to their first innings lead. Mumbai, on the other hand, have earned one point for avoiding an outright loss in the Elite Group A encounter.

Resuming on the overnight score of 354 with two wickets in hand, the Mumbai innings was wrapped up for 441 runs in the morning. Abhishek Nayar was left stranded for 191 runs as Onkar Gurav (20) was bowled a couple of overs into the day’s play while Ankeet Chavan was dismissed by Ganesh Satish.

After Karnataka skipper Vinay Kumar claimed the Mumbai wicketkeeper, Chavan joined Nayar in the middle and added 86 runs for the last wicket. The tail-ender made 32 runs all of which came in the form of boundaries while the No. 3 batsman missed out on what could have been his second consecutive double ton.

After bowling out the hosts, Karnataka came out to bat before lunch with a first-innings lead of 194 runs. Although Robin Uthappa (24) returned to the dressing room early, his opening partner KB Pawan made 57. Ganesh was the next to depart for 56 runs soon after tea. Chavan picked the wickets of Uthappa and Ganesh while Iqbal Abdulla claimed Pawan. When play was called off, Manish Pandey and Amit Verma were unbeaten on 6 and 0 respectively. Karnataka posted 147 for loss of three wickets in 51 overs in the second innings.

Karnataka will now take on Saurashtra while Mumbai will play against Orissa in the next set of Ranji matches scheduled between November 29 and December 2, 2011.

Saurashtra’s Siddharth Trivedi took three for 34 while Sandip Maniar took four for 47 as hosts Punjab finished on the losing side.
