Chasing 229 against Australia A in their last league game of the ongoing Quadrangular series in Australia, India A cantered to a five-wicket win in Darwin. After Manoj Tiwary helped restrict the opposition to 228 with a 5-wicket haul, India A were left struggling on 38 for three. Ambati Rayudu (77) and Kedar Jadhav (52) then came to the team’s rescue and rebuilt the innings while Sanju Samson (49*) helped the team to the target with 13 balls to spare and finish at the top of the points table. Earlier after Australia A opted to bat, Marcus Stoinis and Phillip Hughes got the team off to a good start with a 78-run opening stand until Akshar Patel removed the former. Manoj Tiwary then ran through the middle-order with precision. He claimed the next five wickets to leave the home team on 180 for six. Besides the openers who made half-centuries, the rest of the hosts’ line-up succumbed to the visitors’ attack without much resistance. Parvez Rasool and Ambati Rayudu followed up with a wicket each while Patel claimed Clint Mckay and Ben Cutting to wrap-up the Australia A innings with two balls remaining. Facing the competitive target, India lost three early wickets and were pushed on the back-foot by the Australia A pacers. McKay dismissed Manan Vohra for nine, while Pat Cummins claimed Robin Uthappa. Gurinder Sandhu picked the key wicket of Tiwary to leave India on 38 for three in the 13th over. Jadhav then joined Rayudu in the middle and the pair revived the Indian innings with a 101-run partnership until Cameron White ended it. After the departure of Jadhav, Rayudu found an able ally in Sanju Samson but 52 runs later, Rayudu was sent back by Cameron Boyce. Samson then took the team to the target in an unbroken 40-run partnership with Parvez Rasool (20*).
