Centurions Paliwal, Saini put NZ on top
North Zone continued their run fest into the third day of their Duleep trophy match against East Zone. While Ian Dev Singh went on to make 145, Rajat Paliwal (106*) and Nitin Saini (101*) struck unbeaten centuries to take their team to a mammoth 591 in the first innings. In reply, East Zone were 32 for one when play ended on Day 3 and were still trailing by 559 runs.
Earlier, although the lower order did not contribute much, Ind Dev Singh, who had retired hurt on Day 2 five runs short of his ton, went on to a build on the score before being sent back by Sunny Gupta. The bowler also claimed Mandeep Singh for sixty, but Paliwal and Saini went on to post three-digit scores. Gupta also removed Harbhajan Singh and Mohit Sharma to finish with a four-wicket haul, while Shahbaz Nadeem accounted for Rishi Dhawan and Sarabjit Ladda. NZ declared their innings on 591 for eight.
When play ended, Rameez Nemat was batting on 13 with Sunny Gupta (5).
