Weather impacts play; SZ lose openers early

Weather and conditions continued to hamper play at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi with the Day 2 allowing for only 10 overs of play in the Duleep Trophy final between South Zone and North Zone. After a delayed start South Zone were 33 for the loss of two wickets at stumps.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, South Zone lost Lokesh Rahul with 23 runs on the board in the seventh over. The opener departed top-edging a Mohit Sharma bouncer to Rishi Dhawan. Then, 10 runs later, his opening partner Abhinav Mukund followed him back to the pavilion. The South Zone skipper was castled by Siddarth Kaul for seven leaving the team on 33 for two.

The inform middle-order batsman Baba Aparajith then joined CM Gautam in the middle and when play was called off two balls later, he was yet to open his account. Gautam was batting on eight when play ended on the second day.
